Flashback
When I wake up, all I can see is rubble everywhere. My friends are all around me, all looking seriously injured, especially Kaia. Her face is bloody and her eye seems to have been cut. All of them are still unconcious. I reach for my phone but before I could ring it I blacked out again.
Present Time
'So,' I finish,'That's where it ends. Here, with you. The happy ending.' Then I remember. 'Oh my god!! How is Kaia? Is she fixed up now?' Fiwona sits up with a groan. She seems partially damaged, but not too much. 'Umm how can I put this gently?' She wonders out loud. 'Well, Saskia, sweetie, Kaia is dead, and she isn't coming back.' Fiwona looks at me sympathetically. I gasp. My best friend in the entire world. The toughest of us all and the bravest. Dead. Gone. Forever. 'Can we bury her, in the graveyard, next to her mother and father, like she always wanted to?' I say. 'Yes, would you like to see her first?' I shake my head. 'No. It will make me cry. I don't want her to think that she makes me upset. I want to carry on her legacy, be brave and strong like her.' Fiwona nods, understanding immediately. She had been saved by Kaia once. Kaia saved her life. Fiwona knows what a beautiful and kind person she was. She always will.
Jason walks down to the cafe hand in hand with me. People walking past recognise us, and take a double take at the sight of us together. It's funny, because we didn't expect to fall in love and neither did they! As I said, funny. But I don't want to laugh, I want to think about Kaia and how great she was at everything, leading us, listening to us, talking to us. She was the best partner I could ever have, and the best team memberI could ever have.
I order a sausage sandwich and bite into it hungrily. Jason tells me I have been unconsious for three days, so I haven't eaten for three days. 'Jason, will you come with me everywhere, so I will be safe all the time?' I ask,' Of course. I'll go wherever you will go.' I then start to hum 'Wherever You WIll Go'. We laugh, and I kiss him softly.
