It was about 3:00 when we got home from ice cream and lunch, we also stopped at a small shop on the way home and not me some leggings. I walk into the house to find Tony laying the couch and my dad eating a cookie at the counter. I go upstairs to my bedroom and grab out my phone. There is an unread message that says:
Hi Liz, can't wait for school tomorrow! See you soon!
I get that stupid feeling back of my dumbness at knowing when school starts, and how my best friend Lily knows when it is. Oh, well. I set my phone on my night stand, and sit on the end of my bed stroking Russel's fur. It is very calming surprisingly. I think about school tomorrow and how I will see Lily for the first time sense we talked 2 months ago over the summer.
Betty comes running in and starts yipping. She climbs onto the bed and nestles in next to Russel. I can't help but smile. I mean, two puppies snuggling? Cuteness over load. They both roll over and I give them double belly rubs. I laugh, them purring like a cat. Tony comes barging into my room.
"Knock!" I say. He shrugs and grabs Betty, "What are you doing?" I say mid belly rub. Betty struggles against Tony's grasp.
"Mom needs to give her pills," he replies. I give him a look, "vet said she needed anxiety medications," my look does not change and he gives in. "I need to go..." he says as he backs out of his room. I knew he has no clue what anxiety and medications are, he would never use them in a sentence. I glare at him and let him walk away.
I sit on the bed for who knows how long. I check my clock and it says 8:02. My mom and dad must have forgot I had not eaten dinner. I take this chance, and walk over to my window. My mom and dad don't know that I do this, but I open my window and crawl out onto the roof. I carefully crawl sideways and find a comfortable sitting position. I look at the sky that is turning a beautiful orange. I watch as it slowly turns a mesmerizing pinkish orange. The sun, a light yellow, sets almost all the way down, and the sky turns a deep crimson. I sigh at the beauty. My eyes are locked to the sky and I don't hear the door open and close to my bedroom...
"Honey where..." my mom peeks her out of the window and looks at me.
"I-I..." I stammer. She does not say a word. She actually crawls out next to me and sits looking at the sky. I wonder if I'm in trouble.
"It's beautiful" She finally says. I nod. I can tell by the way she relaxes a bit more, that she has had a lot of stress today. I don't want to comment on her crazy hairstyle, because I don't want her to get mad at me. It gets dark and we both climb back inside. That was weird. Normally, moms yell at you and you get grounded or something. Even though I still have not eaten dinner, I curl up in my bed.
I feel a little anxious for tomorrow. Yes, it's the first day of school. But I feel like something big is coming. I don't know what, but it's coming. I slowly close my eyes and drift off to a peaceful sleep.
