Duke's POV:
She told me to wait for the ambulance I should not have listened to her, I should have forced her to go back. If I had persuaded her to go back, she would have been safe.
I was going to hold her so that she won't fall, but then he came, like always. And I stood behind watching them. Her scream still echoing in my head, her top soaked in blood, there she laid in Zain's arms pale, white, blood dripping from her forehead but looking like I goddess. I try to find my voice to scream her name to call out for her, but nothing comes out.
"Vane" Zain shouted to wake her up, but she closed her eyes. I run towards them, crouch down next to her checking her pulse. My heart, thumping loudly in my chest, the fear of losing her growing with every passing second.
"I have called the ambulance," I told him my voice trembled a bit, watching her like this was heart-wrenching for me I wanted to hold her in my arms, shake her so that she would wake up again and smile at me, but deep down I knew that she would not wake up like this.
"We don't have much time Duke, she is losing blood," Zain said, sounding almost weak. Vanessa is his weakness. She is our weakness.
"Maddox call the doctor now, we are taking her to the hospital near my mansion," With this said he picked her up, not waiting for a second thought. This is the difference between both of us he doesn't think twice if he has to take any decision regarding Vanessa because he knows he will never lose her. But I have to think about it, again and again, afraid that she might not like it and leave me, but he lost her the day that blast happened.
"I will drive, get in Maddox," I said, composing myself.
"Yeah, I called the doctor," Maddox said seating in the passenger seat, Zain sat in the back seat with Vanessa's head in his lap. His face void of emotions but his eyes telling that he is worried.
"Vane, please wake up, you are strong," Zain whispers rubbing Vanessa's palms.
I stop the car in front of Zain's mansion and quickly get out to help him carry Vanessa. "Duke, can you please call in her mansion and inform them about all this," Zain said, not meeting my gaze. Our friendship is not the same now it severed when Vanessa was not here and none of us tried to mend it.
"Okay, I will," I replied. The doctor was already there, we sat in the lobby area in front of operation theatre, waiting and praying that Vanessa will be okay. The bullet was just inches away from her heart. I hope that she is okay. Zain's head in his hands, worried and enraged. Whoever was behind this will die a painful death, I will not leave them alive. My blood boils thinking about the time when that bullet pierced through her skin, she screamed. I was there in front of her I was not able to protect her from this. The more I think about that scene, the more rage builds up inside me.
"Mr Adams, luckily the bullet was not near her heart, we took it out," The doctor came out and informed us, our head snaps in his direction.
"Is she okay now?" Zain asked, hopefully.
"No, she is not out of danger. She suffered internal bleeding we need a specialist to operate, we need to wait for him." The doctor said. We frown confused as to why do we need to wait.
"What do you mean by you need to wait?" Zain asked in a low but deep voice.
"The specialist is operating someone else right now, he will be back in an hour," He said quietly fearing that Zain might do something.
"One hour, are you fucking kidding me," Zain shouted, charging towards the doctor. I quickly stand between both of them."Zain calm down," "Can't you call someone else?" I asked as I turn towards the doctor."No," He said enraging Zain more than he already is.
"Call someone from another hospital, I don't care, I want a doctor here in 15 minutes, I won't wait for more than that," Zain shouted and left the lobby area.
"Ask someone else to come here, we can't wait for that long," Maddox said in an irritated tone and followed Zain.
"I will ask from other hospitals now," The doctor said and left.
My head was pounding as I think about everything connecting every dot to find out who can do this but my mind feels blank. My eyes sting a little threatening to spill tears but I stay strong.Soon the doctor comes and they go back to the operation theatre. Vanessa's right hand Dean arrives with a worried expression on his face. I tell him about everything that happened until now.Zain comes back and leans on the wall, a frown plastered on his face.
"She is out of danger now," The doctor announces after two hours operation with assuring smile. I sigh, relieved that she is ok, Zain and Dean also look like they are relieved now. And Maddox flashes a bright smile and hugs the doctor.
"She needs to rest, she should not feel any kind of pressure or tension," We all nod and the doctor leaves.I stand up to watch her from the glass peek-through window unfortunately, Zain reaches there first. His body relaxed as he watches her safe and in a deep slumber. A bandage around her head and left shoulder.
"Maddox ask the doctor to discharge her and shift her in my mansion, she will be there until she is all okay," Zain said as he turns around.
"She may not like it Zain," I said to protest but I knew that he will not listen to anyone.
"It is final Duke, she will be in my mansion until she recovers," Zain replied running his hands through his hairs and letting out a sigh.
