So here's the thing... I've never actually been to a nightclub in New York City before. I mean it seems amusing but, I've never been asked to go. It also doesn't help the fact that you're basically just cramped in a room with a ton of people you've never met before and know nothing about. That leaves a whole lot of from for uncertainty- and if you haven't noticed yet, I don't do good with uncertainty.
I looked down at my outfit of the day. A black maxi skirt and a white t-shirt tucked in. Okay, it was a solid 9/10 for just being a "marching for our rights" outfit, and it went really well with the sign I intended to bring as well, but for a night club? Especially one named "ZERO"? That had neon and uncertainties written all over it. At least my sneakers weren't visible.
As we entered, we were introduced into a wave of smoke and fog. The club was shining in blue and sliver, making it easy to slip right in with just a white tee.
"Do you see them?" Ross asked, with the sliver lights shining in between his dark brown hair. He peaked his head upward and looked towards the crowd. I followed his gaze and spotted Rashaad and Nathan over by the bar. They were speaking to the bartender, each covered in glitter.
"They're over there!" I pointed my finger in the direction and Ross led the way. He reached both of his hands out for Vivienne and I to hold onto. His hand completely covered my tiny one as he pulled us through the crowd.
"Hey!" Ross shouted, making them look in our direction. Rashaad and Nathan turned around with the cheesiest grins.
"Dude, what happened to you guys tonight?!" Rashaad blurted, filling the aroma around us with the smell of tequila.
"You won't believe the night we've had," Vivienne said. She prompted herself onto the empty stool in front of us and began exchanging in conversation with the bartender. Rashaad and Nathan looked at us, anticipating an answer, but clearly not listening all the way.
"A homeless man stole my wallet. We chased him down and actually ended up inside one of the buildings on campus," I explained, shouting over the loud rap music.
Rashaad opened his mouth in shock and stumbled on his feet saying, "are you serious?"
I sighed and nodded. "Yeah it was-"
"A lot," Ross finished. "We definitely need a drink. Man if I would've known New York was going to be this eventful, I wouldn't have invited Rocky." He walked over to the bar as well and ordered himself a few shots of tequila with Vivienne.
"Who's Rocky?" I questioned, peering over to the bar as well.
"He's my older brother. He should be arriving tomorrow. We might have an interview with billboard music tomorrow, but it's not confirmed yet," Ross explained, "so let's try to keep it cool." He took off his sweatshirt and gestured it over to the man behind the bar saying, "Keep this safe for me man." He slipped a $20 bill towards the bartender. The man just nodded his head and continued with the rhythm of the music.
"An interview with billboard tomorrow? You've got to be kidding me! I knew you guys would take off!" Nathan bragged, putting his arms on Ross' now bare shoulder. He was now in a simple white tank top and black skinny jeans, with the shoelaces on his chucks tied this time. The tank top hugged his body underneath, exposing just a bit more skin than my eyes were ready for. His arms were muscular and fine. I was ready for that shot of tequila now.
We all spent some time conversing about todays nightmare of an event and for the future events to come. I was learning so much about my new friends and their interesting lives. I thought I had it all in the bag with possibilities going for me, but next to them I just seemed... ordinary. Ross and his brother could be interviewing for Billboard tomorrow, and Vivienne was their video director and costume designer. Nathan and Rashaad were both going to the same school as me but landing enough jobs and internship opportunities. They could drop out at any minute now.
