A few months have passed and my parents have still not stopped bothering me about contacting Henry. I've continued to attend my drama lessons in secret though so not everything is bad.
"Bye, Cathy! Remember this time we'll be away for two weeks." Dad says and I nod.
"We love you!" Mum adds. I hear their car drive away and run inside, pulling out my pride stuff. I hang it everywhere then hear a ding from the group chat.

I smile and my phone starts ringing. I drop my flag, cover my bruises and answer it, "Yes?"
"Heyyyyyy," It's Jane.
"Whaz up?"
"The ceiling!"
"What are you doing?" she says, "Wait.. nevermind, I can see you."
"Yep, putting up my pride stuff. My parents are gone for two weeks. Wanna come over?"
She turns around, "Mum?"
A far away voice answers, "Yeah?"
"I'm going to Cathy's!"
"Okay." it replies.
She turns back to the phone, "Am I staying the night?'
I shrug, "Sure."
"See you!" she hangs up.

I hear a car pull up and something brushes against my leg. It's my cat, Izuka. We got her only three weeks ago as a bribe for me to email Henry. I didn't.
I pick her up and walk downstairs where Jane's waiting at the door. "My baby!" she cries and grabs Izuka, booping her nose.
"Well, hi, Jane." I say, offended.
"Hi, Cathy!" she says and hugs me, Izuka squirming. She slips her shoes off, placing them gently on the shoe rack at the door then walks upstairs to put her stuff away.

Hearing a car pull up, I run to the window. We had been working on a song together, "Shit!"
"What?" Jane asks.
"I need you to go to your room, get in my closet and be as quiet as you can," I say and she runs. I hear keys jiggling through the door and I smooth down my shirt-
Wait, one more thing! I take off the LGBTQ+ flag pin and hide it under the couch.
Mum and Dad walk through the door and I smile fakely, "Hi, Mum, Dad."
"Hello, who's car is in the driveway?" my Mum says.
I glance at my feet, thinking of a lie, "The neighbours are having a party and one of the guests asked if they could park their car in the garage."
"Okay, your father forgot his suitcase." she says and Dad runs upstairs. Suddenly, I go pale, my heart pounding.
"Catherine Parr! Why the hell are there rainbow flags all around your room?!?!" shit shit shit. I run upstairs, Mum following behind.

"Dad, I can expl-" he cuts me off, clutching my arm.
"ARE YOU A FAGGOT!?!" he screams. I don't answer, "ANSWER ME!"
"N-no."
"Tell the goddamn truth!" he says and I nod. He throws me to the floor, kicking my side and throws me against the wall. I yell in pain.
"FREAK!" Mum adds.
"You are disgusting! You are not my daughter! YOU ARE NOTHING! NO ONE WILL EVER LOVE A FAGGOT LIKE YOU!" He starts kicking me again and again, punching my face and throwing me down.
*Violence and slurs are over now. Quick summary - Cathy's dad found out she's gay and physically abused her and both her parents verbally abused her. Don't worry, it'll be okay.*
