As they walked back home, May spotted Alex and Elizabeth.
"Hello!" Alex waved. "We were just looking for you! Can you come with us to town hall to get signed off?"
May sighed. "Can I get a break for a moment? I just practiced my Gaia limiter..."
Elizabeth had a look of shock on her face. "You got her to activate? It normally takes most people 2 days!"
Owen shrugged. "I guess it was easy for her. It was easy for me too, so that might be why. Anyway, you should get going, May!"
May dragged her feet to Alex and Elizabeth. She felt tired. And it didn't help that she must've still been jet-lagged from the trip. Well, pod-lagged.
They walked along the same path to the school. Everyone seemed to be returning home from getting groceries. Was it dinner? They arrived back at the school.
May looked up to Alex. "Isn't this the school?"
Alex smiled. "No, it's also the town hall."
May looked back to the school. "That explains a lot. But then where's the mayor?"
"In the principal's office."
May slapped her head. "Right. Why didn't I notice it sooner? Of course. So was the mayor and principal the guy that was next to me on the stage?"
Elizabeth nodded her head. "Yes. His name is Mr. Reliquus."
They went through the revolving doors, and the school was still packed. People in the library, cafe, and in study rooms. Some people looked out the window and waved at her. They had large smiles on their faces. New students must not come often. May awkwardly waved back at them. Straight ahead were two doors shaped just like the pages of a book. Actually, they had strange writing on them. They went through the pages, and to the left and right were classrooms and offices. This must be where they had class. Which explained why nobody was here. They didn't seem like traditional classrooms, though. All the classrooms had different kinds of environments, and she saw one that seemed like some kind of zen garden. Right in front of her were two large doors that they went through. May nearly tripped again, seeing the town hall. It was gigantic, and she thought the school was large enough. Old, ornate paintings lined the domed roof, and people were working at wooden desks. Filling out important documents, or talking with people on the phone. There were even more doors around her, but there were two, large ornate doors in front of her. Probably for the mayor that was also the principal. Or the principal that was also the mayor. This was confusing.
Before she went through the doors, May could picture the mayor's office. Was it an entire house? It could be possible. The amount of doors made May dizzy. She was never really good with directions. But when they went to the office, it was surprisingly humble. The lighting was dim, mainly provided by the sun through the window. There was a zen rock waterfall, with cabinets, drawers, and folders everywhere. But even with all these, there were many nature-related items in the office. Sitting on a black chair was the white-haired man. Strangely, he wasn't in a suit, like he was at the performance. He was wearing a simple red wool sweater, like what someone would wear on a winter night at home.
"Come, sit down!" Mr. Reliquus gestured to them to sit down at the three chairs. One chair looked like it was shoved in a hurry. I guess Mr. Reliquus was a bit unprepared for 3 people. May sat down, looking at the mayor. He smiled, reached for a paper and a pen in his cabinets, and handed them over to May.
"Write in your best handwriting, alright?"
