"Tell me you're joking."
"I wish I was." Owen checked over a book. "Yeah, I don't know how you could have come from Terra."
"What is the Split, anyway?" May asked.
Owen sighed. "A long time ago, Gaia was one planet. This planet was called Terra. But, long story short, Word split this planet into two. One half is Gaia, the other is... A bit confusing. It does exist actually, because we've seen it in pictures. But how did you come from the past?"
May was absolutely brain-dead. "I have no idea how I time-travelled through to another planet. Could it have been the pod I arrived in?"
"Possibly. But did you have technology like that at the time?"
May chuckled. "No way. Do you guys even have that?"
"We have teleporting, but no time travel. So how did you get here? And, better question, have I become friends with a 4000 year old girl?"
May lightly chuckled. "No, no. I don't think so, at least. I really don't understand how I ended up 4000 years in the future either..."
Both are here. Now I finish off both.
"What if those red eyes brought me into the future too?" May's voice started to panic. "What if this was all his plan?"
"Woah, woah, don't bring the red eyes into this. Is it really related?" Owen comforted.
"Think about it. What could be the only thing that brought me into the future? The only thing with that power..."
Owen stopped May. "I know I've had these dreams too, but what are they really? Can't they just be imaginary?"
"Why would we have the same dreams? How would that be possible?"
Owen pushed his fingers against his forehead, stressed. "This makes absolutely no sense. How about we save this for another day?"
"No, we can't leave this alone." May demanded. "Or else why would Mr. Reliquus bring this up?"
Owen got up, sighing. "Sure... I think the first step would be to check over the pod again. There might be something we missed."
May nodded. "Okay, whatever helps us get us to the bottom of this."
(Line Here)May looked over the pod differently. Could it have been hiding something right under her nose? And how could it have travelled through time? There was no way that it could, if even Gaia didn't have the technology.
Owen peeked from behind the back of the pod. "Hey, May! I think I found something!"
May ran over. "Why, what is it?"
Owen pointed at a cylindrical handle in the back of the pod. It was coated in rough leather, and seemed to be holding something. Owen turned it, and then pulled it out. It looked like a large battery, but it was dead and all used up.
Owen gestured to the battery. "See! This might be the thing that made you travel forward in time. I don't think we have anything like this in Gaia."
May opened her eyes in surprise. "I actually didn't know that was there... But it might just be to power the pod's functions, right?"
Owen set the battery on the ground. "Something as big and heavy as this probably wouldn't power simple functions, so there's a possibility this powered the thing that made you shoot into the future. Say, what were the functions of this pod anyway? You never told me."
May went into the pod. "Well, there's a few. The first was to find a place that had barely any residents, to avoid detection. But, of course..."
Owen went in with her. "Yeah. That didn't work out so well."
May nodded. "Yep. The second one was to eject a weapon near the time of landing. Which was what..."
"You nearly stabbed me with, yeah. How long has it been since then? 3 months?"
May laughed, sitting down on her old chair. "It still amazes me how we came from this to now."
Owen sat down on the smooth, metal floor of the pod. "Hey, if it was this simple, couldn't they have mass-manufactured these pods? Then, why did you-"
Owen stopped himself, seeing May slightly shiver at what he was saying.
"I don't know why... There was only one pod. And my dad threw me in there, and the door shut, and I was gone..." Her voice slightly cracked.
Owen looked down at his legs. "Maybe they only had one pod because it was hard to produce this technology. And, actually, what if it's not really traveling in time? What if you were actually in some sort of stasis?"
May's eyes lit up. "Stasis? Actually, now that you mention that, I remember blacking out for a moment, but I never knew why. I thought I just fell asleep."
"Maybe the people who attacked your planet thought they would track you, so they put you in stasis so you could outlive them, then went flying back to your old planet, which was now Gaia."
"That... Actually makes sense!" May smiled lightly. "It would also explain why there was such a big battery, probably for life support."
Owen nodded. "Exactly. Now, it might not be right, but it means there's a possibility, right?"
"T-thank you..." Tears started to pool in May's eyes. "You've been helping me so much, and I haven't done anything at all..."
Owen jumped up, wiping off her tears with his finger. "Hey, c'mon, you can't start crying again. I know a lot has been going on. But you can't let the past hold you down forever like this, crybaby."
May sniffled, rubbing her nose with her sleeve. "Y-yeah, I can't. I don't want to live in the past forever."
Owen smiled. "Now that's more like it! You don't have to do anything for me, really. That's what friends are for, right? And, besides, just you being there for me is enough."
May looked up. "Wait, what?"
Owen's face suddenly flushed. "W-wait! Out of context, I-I know it sounds weird, but I didn't mean it like that, really!"
May started laughing. "You're not good at hiding your emotions, are you?"
Owen started blushing even more. "N-no! It's really not that, really!"
"Jeez, calm down. You look like you have a fever."
Owen took some deep breaths. "Yeah. Uh, sorry about that. I can get flustered pretty easily."
"Oh, don't worry about it. I found it pretty funny, actually." May laughed.
Owen sighed. "I guess that's good... I'm just glad you cheered up."
May nodded. "Yeah, I'm all better now. Thanks for snapping me out of that. I'm sorry you had to see me like that again..."
"No, it's fine! It's okay to admit if you're not over things yet, right? And it's okay. To me, you're still someone who can persevere through anything. And, really, I'm sure you can make it through this too.
"Yeah..." May yawned. "Sheesh, what time is it?"
"Well, we were in school for longer because of all the organization and stuff so..." Owen checked on a pocket watch. "It's around 10 in the afternoon."
May's eyes opened in surprise. "10?! That's like, really late! How long were we here?"
"Well, it was sunset when we left the school, which is around 9:30, so 30 minutes?"
"I guess it feels shorter when you're caught in the heat of the moment. Should we head back home? I bet Mom and Dad are worried sick."
Owen nodded. "Yeah. Sheesh, I'm still getting used to you TECHNICALLY being my sister. Foster sister."
"Really?"
"Yeah, honestly, it feels like you're a friend that came over, or something like that."
"I guess. I'm not used to the fact that you're my brother too." May laughed.
Owen headed out of the pod. "Okay, we should go home now. Race you?"
"You're on."
