May was talking about what Owen just did all the way back home.
"That was so cool! Jean shot a lightning bolt at you with a zap, but you reflected it with a whoosh!"
Owen laughed. "Yeah, it always ends up like that. Also, I appreciate the sound effects. You know, that's possible with all the things I told you."
They came back home, and May smelt dinner being cooked up. Again, the knife was working on it's own, cutting up vegetables in a flash.
Mom looked behind her while she stirred a pot. "Oh, welcome back! Did you show May around the school?"
Owen smiled. "Yep, but I kinda got caught up at the gym. I'm planning to show May around everything else tomorrow."
"Wait, there's still more?"
Owen nodded. "Yeah, of course! You saw how big the school was, right?
May sighed. "Yeah, I guess. Anyway, what's for dinner? I'm starving!"
Mom smiled. "Meatballs in soup! Crackers are in the cabinets if you want."(just think of ikea meatballs)
After cleaning out every drop of soup in their bowls, they went to their room. Owen flopped onto his bed, stuffing his face in his pillow.
"Why does Jean always have to force me to use so much stamina? It's very aggravating. I rarely wake up before 10 after a battle with him!" Owen's muffled voice said.
May chuckled. "Well, it DID seem pretty intense."
When she sat on her bed, May noticed her sleeves were still soaked with water, even with the jacket on.
Owen turned to his side, noticing May's sleeves. "Oh, your sleeves got wet! Here, I think my parents got pajamas for you. You can go take a shower and change."
"Thanks!" May searched through her cabinets, picking up a set of pajamas. She went inside the washroom, locking the door behind her. Owen turned over, staring at the roof. What had happened today? A girl had come down from space into his garden, nearly killed him, and he was showing her around Gaia. And she was living in his house. Absolute insanity. And yet, he felt fine with it. It felt as if May had already been in Gaia before, in some sort of past life. Owen became friends with May in only a few days. Well, Owen couldn't tell if they were friends yet. May came out of the washroom in some pajamas.
May glanced at a family photo that was on Owen's stand. It was the same one that was in the living room, but May noticed something interesting.
"Hey, Owen?"
Owen glanced over a book he was reading. "Hm? What is it?"
May held the photo in her hand. "How long ago was this?"
"I dunno," Owen shrugged. "maybe two years?"
May stifled a laugh. "And this is what you looked like two years ago?"
May pointed at a boy with a plump face, and chubby arms that looked like stumps.
Owen flustered, taking the photo back from May. "Hey! I still had baby fat, okay?"
"Two years ago?"
"Okay, maybe Mom's cooking was just a bit TOO good. That's actually the reason why mom's started to watch the fat in her dishes." Owen sighed.
May started to crack up. "Okay, getting fat because you don't exercise is bad. But over mom's food? That's a bit more understandable."
"Right!? I think if she still served the same dishes, you would end up like old me in a month."
May yawned. "Speaking of fatty foods, it's making me tired."
Owen got up and grabbed his pajamas. "Here, I'll go change and then we can sleep."
"Don't you need a bath too?" May wondered.
"No, I think you needed it more."
"Hey!" May huffed. "Was that an insult?"
Owen laughed. "You can think of it that way."
May pulled a heavy blanket over herself, thinking.
No, there's obviously another reason. May thought. In his voice, there's obviously something else. Oh well, it's probably nothing.
Owen came out in navy blue pajamas, and got ready to sleep, pulling a blanket over himself.
"Goodnight!" Owen smiled.
"Goodnight to you too." May smiled back.
Owen turned off the lights, after a long and exhausting day. But, even when they were sleeping, something ancient was awakening in them.
