After going home and getting an earful from Mom about not coming home after 10, they prepared to go to bed.
May fell down on the bed, exhausted. So much happened today, and it felt good to get what happened off her chest.
Owen turned around in his bed to face May. "Hey, have you had any of those weird dreams lately?"
May turned to face Owen, shaking her head. "No, not really. I've just had dreams in general."
Owen smiled. "Phew, that's good." Something about Owen smiling in his pajamas, with his messy, orange hair and blue eyes made her smile too.
"Yeah, goodnight." May reached for the lamp, turning it off.

May could faintly hear the sound of thunder rumbling, as rain beat against the windows. But the sound was distant, like in the back of her head.May. The cassette.
Suddenly, she was sitting cross-legged in this black space. She felt at home, like she was in her own thoughts. In front of her was a cassette player, with a cassette already in it. May ejected the cassette, inspecting it. Rough paper tape was on its front, and written in black marker was the word "SPIRIT" scrawled out in messy handwriting. The cassette was old and beat up, with large scratches on it's black plastic. May put it back in, pushing down the plastic top with a click. She pressed play.
"..spirit? No, she couldn't be. Would you do that?"
The audio crackled and popped, fading in and out. But, she could still understand what the voices were saying. Actually, the first voice was Mr. Reliquus for some reason.
"Yes, I had to. This world is under great danger. They have to find the core in the Split."
"There's a Gaia core there?"
"Yes. That is what connects these two worlds. You can't tell them. No matter what happens."
"Okay."
The cassette player clicked off. May opened the case, grabbed the cassette, and crushed it in her hand.
