I roll over, and I see Watts staring at me quietly. "that's really creepy; why are you staring at me like that," I say quickly.
He laughs, "sorry, I literally just looked over as you started waking up."
"Oh, ok. Less creepy then," and I get up with a sigh, "my back's killing me from sleeping on the floor, or this OLD sofa. I miss my bed back home. I don't miss sharing a bed with my brother, though."
"You share a bed? With your twin?" Watts asks as he puts the sleeping bag away.
I laugh, "oh no. Colton, my youngest brother, sleeps in my bed sometimes. Ethan and I share a room. Pete and Colton are supposed to share but sometimes don't, and Sam and Molly share a room. Again, I have a big family."
"Oh really. Even I get my own room," he says and sticks his tongue out at me.
I squint my eyes, "ok, I get it. I'm poor, BUT I'm tall, so boom. I win in the end," I say and hold the backpack way up over his head.
We have a good laugh as he jumps up to reach the backpack. If the Capital is watching, I'm sure SOME of them are enjoying this for sure.
"I think you really just need a big brother in your life, little man," I say as I throw the bag out the window and climb out. I turn around and help him out, and we walk down an alley.
After about 30 minutes, I pull out one of the hatchets and signal for him to ready the bow and whisper, "I hear something, so be ready to fire if I say so, ok?" He nods, and we tiptoe to the sounds, and I hear people speaking.
"No. Stop. You'll break it," says a male voice in a harsh tone.
"Shut up. It's not even working. It's already broken," says a female voice.
"It has gas, and the wires match what I remember from school. It has to work," says the boy.
I peer around the corner really quickly and see it's the pair from District 6, the transportation district, huddled over an old car. They must learn how cars work. Which means if they get that car started, they can drive it, but where.
I look over at Watts and shrug before whispering, "why would they want to drive a car? They can't leave the arena."
He thinks for a second and almost snaps his fingers before he stops himself and whispers, "They can't leave, but they can hit people with it."
"Can you fix it?" I ask.
"I think so, but if I can't, we can just roll it down a hill," he whispers.
"Ok. When I say shoot. Aim for one of them. I'll take out the other if this doesn't work, And then run. Got it," I say, and he nods his head and taps the loaded bow. I nod back and stand up.
"Hey there, you need some help?" I say casually.
They both jump, and the boy reaches for a knife, and the girl moves out from behind the hood of the car.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" The boy asks. What an idiotic question, no wonder he hasn't fixed the car yet. "Well. You see, I'm in this thing called the Hunger Games, where we have to kill other people to win. It seems my good man, you need help with a car," I say in a semi-sarcastic voice but flash my most charming smile at them both.
"what do you know about cars, tree boy?" Asks the girl. Good to know she is the brains of the operations.
"Absolutely nothing, BUT my friend here," I gesture to Watts. He walks out holding the bow and nods, "his parents work at a factory, and his dad's taught him everything about engines, right, buddy."
