"Here's your dessert." the waiter said as he handed the desserts to my boyfriend and me. We started to eat the cake slices when suddenly Jared looked up at me.
"Are you for real?" He asked. I didn't know what he was talking about until I saw the engagement band that he had picked up on his fork. I just looked at him in awkward silence. I didn't know how to react. Of course, I want to marry him in the future, but I didn't plan this.
"Ummmm..." was all that I could say. A nearby couple was looking over at us. The man got up and walked over to our table. How could this get any more awkward?
"Excuse me, could I have my ring back?" He asked. My boyfriend just slid the ring off the fork and handed it to the man. As the man was about to leave he said, "Do you want the cake too or can I keep that?" The man slowly turned back around and looked at Jared. "That's all yours." The man said and walked back to his table.
After the man was out of earshot, Jared said "I'm glad that wasn't meant for me. Don't get me wrong, I want to marry you, I'm just not ready." "Yeah, me too," I admitted.
After all the tension defused, we laughed about it for the rest of the night. The man did end up proposing to his girlfriend. Spoiler, she said yes.
A/N: Sorry this one is really short but I thought it was a funny idea and I don't usually write comedic stories. I thought I would give it a try.
