Last of their kind: an apply fic

Chapter 3

Augusta

"Good. Now that everyone is here we can start." Lara announced in her bossy tone as she crossed her arms.

Augusta slowly eyed the crowd. She knew already that she had a friend in Lara. But the navigator girl sure was bossy and people didn't seem to like it.

It was her role to smile at everyone to calm things down.

 The tall muscular boy was back. His name? Alex. She kept staring at him until he looked at her with his midnight blue eyes. She blushed. Hard.

But then she noticed something. When he came back with the other group from below, he brought two other girls with him. And one of them with red curls was staring at him dreamily. 

Ugh. She'd better not mess this up.

"I think what our dear old Lara meant to say was that it's nice to meet everyone and now we can start working on the project." The boy Navigator, Jackson, translated. 

"I can speak for myself, thank you." Lara snapped.

Jackson laughed. "Of course you can. Since we'll have to familiarize ourselves with each other, what if we present one by one going around the room? Sounds good?"

Everybody somewhat nodded. Augusta eyed the crowd again. The Brunette girl Alex brought seemed like one of the most reluctant. Their eyes met and she forced herself to smile.

The brunette didn't smile back.

"So I'll go first." Said Navigator Jackson. "I'm Jackson as some of you may know, but you can call me Jack. I'm the Navigator of the team and I'm from the UK. Nice to meet you all."

Some people in the room clapped, Augusta being one of them. She was only trying to lighten up the mood.

Next, Lara stood up. "Lara Frost, your girl Navigator at your service. I'm  American."

Augusta claps the best she can for her friend and looked around. Luckily, this little speach seemed to melt down the hearts of their team a little. 

Then, when she saw that half the room was expecting her to go next, she stood up. "Augusta Bohdi from India. I'm the doctor, so come to me if you need anything." 

Augusta sat back down feeling great. People were cheering for her, even the girl with red curls. She looked at Alex right next to her. He was also smiling. Just that one little grin made Augusta feel as if she possessed the whole world already. 

And so far it went. The boy doctor of the team, a Singaporean named Rohan, seemed shy but fun. He'd make a good co-worker. The redhead girl next to Alex was named Maria, with her somewhat unfriendly brunette friend, Zera. And of course, she knew Alex Baker the Icelandic engineer. 

There were others too. Although Augusta couldn't mentally note down all of their names, she noticed the following:

- Hailey Feron, the Jamaican Lawyer. 

- Irina Orlov, the Russian Communicator. 

- Zane Forestier, the French Astronomer 

- Hannah Greenbridge, the South African Biologist. 

- Kasumi (what was her last name again?), Japanese cook.

They all seemed like a nice bunch. Augusta was glad to have a such of a team.

"Hey." Somebody poked her in the arm. She yelped.

"Oh... umm... hi." She said to the person. It was Rohan, the fellow doctor.

"You're the girl doctor of the team right?" He asked awkwardly. 

"I... sure am." She replied. He seemed nice, but he wasn't easy to talk to.

"That's great! Umm... so..." he blubbered.

"Yes?" She asked. She was starting to grow impatient, which was a rare thing to see. Maybe Lara's bossiness was starting to get on her too.

She noticed that Jack and Lara seemed to be discussing something. When Lara tried to catch everyone's attention, she listened to her immediately. 

"Talk to you later." She whispered to Rohan. He nodded reluctantly. 

"Ehem everybody." Lara started. "In order to get to know each other better, Jack and I thought it might be best to play games or something. What do you guys say?"

"Awesome idea!" Somebody cried out. It was probably Jiho, the Korean boy.

"So... any suggestions?" Lara and Jack looked at the crowd hopefully. "We couldn't think of any..."

"Maybe telephone?" Kasumi suggested. 

"Nah, let's go to the fun right away!" Said Zane Forestier in his strong French accent. "How about spin the bottle?"

"Smart!" Lara snapped her fingers in approval. Zane stood up and bowed to the group.

However, Anourak, the Thailand boy, seemed skeptical about the idea. "Does anyone even have a bottle? I sure don't."

"Neither do I... I checked the kitchen and there was nothing there." Kasumi announced as well.

"Well you're not the only cook." Zera reminded her. "Does the boy cook have something?"

Damien Shepherd, the Welsh cook, silently raised his hand. And in that hand there was...

The classical green bottle that was supposed to hold alchohol inside.

Everyone cheered. Now they could go on with the game.

"Who starts?" Jack asked the crowd.

"Ooh! Can I spin?" Augusta volunteered.

"Sure, go ahead." Lara told her with a wink. 

Augusta smiled at her new friend as she took the green bottle from Damien. "So I would kiss the person this bottle points at." She confirmed.

"Mhm. So go ahead!" Zane looked creepily excited. 

Auguata closee her eyes and spun the bottle. It spun and spun, and every second felt like an hour.

Who will she kiss?

Although she didn't admit it in public, she had never had her first kiss. The hindu rules in the small village in India where she grew up were strict, and she never got to kiss a boy.

Not that any seemed to liked her anyways...

If they have however, she understood thag they could never show it. And it was all in the past now. She was aboard this ship. On a very special mission as a doctor, essential in case someone she cared for fell ill.

The bottle spun and spun and suddenly stopped. She looked at who it was pointing at and felt her heart leap in joy.

It was Alex Baker.
