Zera
"Wait! But..." Zera tried to protest as the huge ship started to grumble. The professor couldn't have forgotten her, could he?
But maybe he did. Because by the time the rumbling spaceship soared across the sky, Zera realized she had never made, and would never make, the astronaut's oath.
Inside, she started to pout. Why her? Why did she have to be left out?
"Engineer F, are you ready?" A girl's voice in an American accent echoed inside her helmet, snapping her out of her little poutfest.
Because she wasn't just a helpless little girl, living under the merciless roof of her abusive parents.
If they could be qualified for parents that is.
Now she was 17. She was making history with 15 more around her age. The world was counting on her. She was far away from her home town in Australia, but it was definitely worth it.
"Engineer F, do you copy?" The female voice asked again, this time more impatient than before.
"Copy." Zera answered back.
"Good. As soon as we get out of orbit, we'll navigate the ship towards ZUCKER-XD-049. When we give you the signal, switch the gears to gas saving voyage mode. Copy?"
"Copy." She answered once more. Damn the girl was bossy.
"Awesome. We'll meet you outside Engineer F."
~~~
The last time Zera had a good deep breath of forest fresh air was the day before takeoff, when she wandered into the woods to say goodbye. She thought that would be the last time she would ever see plants.
But she couldn't be more wrong.
For right in front of her room in the spaceship was an arboretum beneath a starry domed sky, with a gigantic telescope in the middle.
A telescope occupied by a red haired girl.
In the shock of seeing another human being, Zera jumped back instinctively and yelped. The girl turned around, facing Zera with her bright green eyes.
"Hello." She said.
"Umm... hi." Zera said awkwardly.
"I guess you're one of my new teammates." Thankfully, she smiled as she pronounced the words. "I'm Maria, Maria Holtzour. Astronomer."
"I'm Zera." She managed to say. "Zera Slater, the engineer."
"Oh are you the one who couldn't make the oath?" Maria's face revealed that she regretted the words as soon as she said it. "Sorry... I didn't mean to..."
"It's alright." Zera told her. "I might as well get used to it."
The words sounded more bitter than she had intended them to be. However, Maria didn't seem very bothered by that.
"To be honest, I don't even know why we needed that. The only thing that interests me is surviving so no need to make me say it out loud. Well, except that I'm also looking forward for a boyfriend that is."
Zera had totally forgotten about that. Now they would meet their future husbands and have...
Romance.
Although she tried to hide it, Zera knew she was a hopeless romantic. She always dreamed of that moment where she'd meet her other half and live her own happily ever after.
Apparently, that wasn't the case for Maria. If anything, she did not try to hide her love for romance.
"I wonder how they'd be, the boys." She murmured dreamily.
"I hope they're nice." Zera commented.
"I hope they're hot as the sun." Maria answered, raising an eyebrow knowingly.
They both laughed at that. Zera knew she would get along with this girl. They had the same sense of humor and similar interests.
Suddenly, they stopped. Buzzing sounds erupted out of nowhere. A huge herd of bees came buzzing their way, ready to sting.
"Duck!" A voice came. And seeing no other choice, the girls obeyed.
A/N: I hope you liked this first chapter. Sorry for the day late update. My phone broke so I couldn't be online yesterday.
Any ideas whose pov it should be next time?
