third person - merlin

Merlin woke up earlier than usual to get his chores done and still be able to have some free time with Arthur. It was tiring, he had to admit, but the outcome was worth it.

Merlin was happier than he'd ever been.

The increase in chores, however, was a real bummer. Merlin still cursed out the King to himself whenever he hauled Arthur's armour around or polished the windows (a chore he picked up from a fellow servant girl).

But, Merlin reminded himself, it was worth it. The increase of chores meant it was less obvious something was going on between them.

Sighing, Merlin pushed open Arthur's door and waltzed into his room. This might have been Merlin's favorite part of the day. Seeing Arthur sleeping, that is.

It was kinda creepy, he had to admit, but Arthur just looked so peaceful!

Part of Merlin didn't want to wake him up. Arthur was a very busy guy who did a lot of physical activities during the day. He needed his sleep.

And did Arthur even like spending the early mornings with Merlin?

No, Merlin couldn't think like that.

Shaking his head, Merlin ripped the curtains open, sending light all throughout the room, and yelled, "rise and shine!"

The morning continued normally. Arthur and Merlin talked and had breakfast together. Their alone time ended, however, when a knight knocked on the door and reminded Arthur of the morning training he had.

Arthur groaned in what Merlin thought was annoyance but it seemed to run deeper. Handing Arthur his tunic, Merlin questioned the sudden grumpiness.

"I wanted today to be special. Just you and me," he said, reaching for his belt next.

"Special? What for?" Merlin silently fixed the knot at the top of Arthur's tunic. The prat still couldn't even dress himself properly, Merlin thought as he shook his head.

"Our anniversary."

"Our what?" Merlin was surprised. They had been dating for a little over a month but Merlin didn't see that as anniversary worthy.  "It's only been five or so weeks of dating, Arthur. I'm not sure I'd call that an anniversary."

"Not dating," Arthur said with mock exasperation. "It's been three years since you became my manservant."

Merlin was shocked. He had no idea Arthur remembered the date. Merlin couldn't even remember what month it was when he was saddled with the job of servitude.

Well, he thought, that's a bit of a stretch.

"I had no idea you cared so much," he said.

"I just liked how brave and selfless you were. That knife could have hit you." Despite the strong urge to tease Arthur, Merlin decided against it. The prince was rarely so open like this. Sure, he was affectionate but not reminiscent.

Truthfully, Merlin wasn't either.

"Well it definitely would have hit you so jumping in felt like the only reasonable thing to do."
