The Debt Collector
The golden bells in the Capital City of Celis rang reminding me of my upcoming death. I was pushed and pulled out of prison cell wearing only with little decency where what they called it as ragged clothes. My wrists aches as the shackles bit my flesh with every tugged the guards does. My bare feet touching the cold cobblestones pathway. It used to be protected with rich and expensive leather, now it is too exposed in everything. It's pale flesh full of scars and bruises. Not only that but my entire body is covered with bruises and eye sore scars.
Everyday of battle living in that prison cell for the last nine months had made my body unrecognizable. From my well groomed and everyday routine, my yourh disappears in an instant. With scarce food and water, no proper place to sleep. The floor that's too dirty and when days are too cold you'll shiver to death. But when days are too hot, you will feel like you are being cooked. I was snapped out when I one of the guard tugged the chain strongly that I almost kneel at the pavements. It was quite a sullen day. The sky is too gloom, and the wind is too cold. I lift my head and watched the clouds move above. I can't help to smile bitterly. Is this really my fate? What a waste of life and such an ugly life to live.
Soon my feet grew tired of walking as we reached our destination. The plaza stood beautiful and massive. But my--why did it looked dull than before? It usually shines in luxury. It looks like even the place is filled with a sad aura as my life slowly turns to an end. Such a mockery. The plaza is filled with curious people eyeing me. Some filled with disgust. Some filled with pity. Some are amused how I could be punished with this fate. I was thrown at the center watched by hundreds of mocking eyes. My throat are aching from the lack of water, my stomach aches as hunger fills me in. Soon I felt nauseous.
In an instant I was tied on a Pillar and the guards started throwing sticks and branches around me. I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. How did I end up here? Ahh yes my stupidity led me to death.
Too many enemies that I can't have a decent fight. It was ten to one. Of course I would lose. . .
Or is just I am too weak lead to my fall. Ragid came and announced the arrival of the prietesses and the royal family. My fist balled as I heard those words. The people who should be my saviour but still in the end was blinded by fake smiles and pretentious agendas. Those people who calls themselves as unbiased rulers but disgustingly have poor judgements. My whole life was in their hands yet without proper investigations they punished me with something I don't deserved. I am innocent.
"Today we are gathered here to witness the execution of the former Duchess Izavella Hidalgo, the first child of the former Duke of Luha, Duke Iverson who was a great ruler and until his death sacrificed his life performing his duty and showed his loyalty to our kingdom."
Everyone is silent as Ragid keeps on speaking. I am in too much pain as head aches came in. Wishing that everything turns to an end.
"Izavella was sentenced for the heavy crimes of abuse of the Title's power, and traitorous act against our beloved kingdom. She is punished to be burned alive as the cleansing ceremony starts for whoever replace her in her title will never follow her mistakes"
It was loud and clear. I was to be burned alive like the witches. I was considered as a bad luck and bad omen. How ironic it is for me, that people burn the bodies of the dead for hope of it to be reincarnated while I am burned to be dead. Even in my death there is no justice. There is no proper ceremony instead a cleansing ceremony was present for the title I will be left behind.
