Charlotte gasped for air as she ran through the woods.

"Over here!" she called, tearing off her backpack and shoving her golden Swiss army knife in her pocket, as the creature came bustling out of the bushes. It's not like it would do much good, but it was better than nothing.

The twenty foot monster loomed over her with tight fists and rippling muscles, but the main feature that caught Charlotte completely off guard was the one, massive eyeball, right in the center of its head.

Cyclops, she thought, terrified.

The cyclops was wearing blue jeans and a dirty and torn white t-shirt that said 'Go 49ers!' in bright red, bubble letters.

"Um, it's a little late to be cheering for the 49ers," Charlotte said to it, recalling the last Super Bowl.

The cyclops roared, alarmingly loud, and screamed a word Charlotte knew all too well. "DEMIGOD!"

The monster then swung one of his enormous fists at Charlotte with a startling speed for the creature of its size. Luckily, she dodged it, only to have it come right back at her. This time, she was not ready for the dizzying speed that it came at. It slammed against her stomach, which propelled her straight into a tree trunk.

"Uhh," she groaned, trying to focus her vision on the monster. How many were there? Two? Three? Suddenly, her vision cleared to see the one cyclops charging at her.

I've trained for this. It can't be that fast, she thought to herself, reassuringly.

"DEMIGOD WITH STRONG SCENT MUST DIE!" it hollard, still charging at her.

Charlotte quickly scrambled to her feet and dove out of the way, causing the creature to ram straight into the tree trunk, exactly where Charlotte just was.

There was nothing else Charlotte could do but run. She was a good fighter, trained by Lupa, the wolf goddess herself, but she barely had a weapon to kill the thing with, so she just had to try and get it off her trail, and keep it as far away from the school as she could. And sure, the mortals could not see the monster because of the Mist, but it could still cause some heavy damage to the school, and even some students.

Charlotte stormed past bushes and trees as fast as she could, but the cyclops was faster than it looked. She was running out of energy, and the blow that she took into the tree certainly did not help.

"GAAAHHHHH," it shouted, plowing through any bushes that got in its way.

There was only one place that could save her now. Camp Jupiter. Even though Charlotte wanted to bring Char with her, there was no time. If she decided to somehow get back to the school, she may as well have been served on a silver platter.

The cyclops kept roaring as Charlotte kept trying to dart from side to side, trying to put some distance from her and the monster.

"Come on, ugly!" she urged the creature on, as she rushed up the hill. She was losing energy and the cyclops was not.

As soon as she reached the top of the rise, the trees cleared out and that's when she saw them. Those big, shining doors of camp, embedded into a nearby hill.

Charlotte immediately felt a leap of hope in her aching stomach.

As she started sprinting down the hill she was caught by surprise as the cyclops was hurling trees and rocks at her, trying to stop her from getting to camp. She managed to dodge most of the falling debris, however, one boulder in particular, managed to graze Charlotte, causing her to tumble down the hill.

When she hit the flat ground, she was seeing spots. She was so focused on fixing her vision, she forgot for a split second, her main concern, and the cyclops was taking advantage of that second. He quickly grabbed her by the neck, lifting her off the ground, and sneered at her.

"Caught you, demigod," he snickered.

Charlotte pried at his hand, gasping for air, but his grip was too tight. She was not getting out of it.

This is the end, she thought helplessly.

She was so close to camp. Then, suddenly, her hand trailed to her pocket. The knife! Charlotte quickly flipped it out and stabbed it into the monster's hand as hard as she could.

"AAAAAHHHHHHH," he screamed, immediately dropping Charlotte. She warily stood, clutching her neck.

"WHAT IS THIS?" the creature screamed. The cyclops was reacting to the gold, Imperial gold, and started to disintegrate into yellow powder.

Finally, the creature was nothing but a pile of power that smelled like sulfur, and a small, gold, Swiss army knife, that was supposedly a gift from her father.

Charlotte limped over to the knife and carefully picked it up.

She suddenly started seeing more black spots and crumpled to the floor, unconscious.
