The next thing he was aware of when he woke up was pain. Derek Shepherd was in pain. He opened his eyes only to see Vanessa sitting in his hospital room.

"Lohan!" He commanded, begging for an explanation.

"Oh, sir, you're awake. The rest of the team went back to the station, but I brought my supplies so I could set up here with you," the woman responded.

Derek noticed she was sitting between two tables, her three computers in front of her as well as piles of paperwork. The ICU room Derek was in was quite large, and it had enough room for a couch and a few chairs as well as his bed and Vanessa's entire setup.

"Okay," he breathed, trying to concentrate on anything but the pain.

His prayers were answered when the door to the room slid open and in stepped the petite blonde surgeon who had introduced herself to him yesterday, although he couldn't quite remember her name.

She looked tired, but so did most doctors and his entire FBI team.

"Agent Shepherd, I see you're awake again. How're you feeling?" She asked lightly.

"Like crap,"

She offered him a small smile, which made him smile back.

"You need more morphine?" she whispered to him quietly.

He nodded, surprised she understood without being said that he was a man full of pride and didn't want anyone to know about the pain medicine he wanted. She adjusted his drugs and checked his vitals.

The room was awkwardly quiet, spare the rapid typing of Vanessa and shuffling of her supplies in the corner. The doctor turned to leave, but he called out.

"Wait, Dr..." he trailed off, realizing he forgot her name.

"Grey. Meredith Grey. Chief of general surgery," She extended a hand for him to shake, which he took and shook weakly.

"I'm bored out of my mind, why don't you stay and have a chat?" He asked, trying to use his charm on her.

"You've been conscious for about five minutes, don't be overdramatic," she laughed, "besides, like you, I'm the head of my own department. I'm very busy,"

"Of course," He tried his best to sound dejected.

"I have a surgery in ten minutes," she defended, "But I have some time to catch up on charting afterwards. I'll do it in here with you, since you're so pitiful," she mocked his pout with one of her own. Derek chuckled, wincing in pain.

"Sorry," she smiled, "I've got to run. I'll see you soon Agent Shepherd," she finished before walking off. He sat there staring after her. So she was smart and funny. Okay, he liked her already. Most of the doctors he met were extremely arrogant and annoying, but she didn't seem like that.

Dr. Grey carried herself differently. She was proud and strong, he could tell from her stance. Derek shook his head, realizing he was about to use all his FBI training to gather as much as he could about his doctor.

Derek was drifting back to sleep when the door to his room opened and Jake stepped in, causing Derek to become alert immediately.

"Desmond! How's it going out there?" Derek asked. The blonde man just shook his head and took a seat next to Derek's bed.

"Nothing," anger was present in his voice, "we're running out of time,"

Derek sighed and after a minute of silence Jake changed the subject.

"You scared the crap outta us yesterday, Shep,"

Derek smiled, "I'm sorry, but don't worry you're stuck with me for a long time to come,"
