A/N: Hi! So, this chapter took a while. I'm sure my fellow writers can agree when I say we're never happy with our work, and this whole story is no exception. I rewrote this chapter multiple times, nothing feeling exactly right. But, I needed to get a move on so here's what I got. The next chapter (which I'm in the process of editing right now) should be out in a day or two. Enjoy!
Olivia sighs as she walks out of the interrogation room, Jake at her heels. They are leaving Matthew Trakcol in the room by himself, hopefully putting some more pressure on to get him to talk. They wordlessly make their way back to the main room where the rest of their team is.
Olivia is surprised to find two doctors, friends of Meredith sitting on the couch when she walks in. Deciding that if they were sitting there, Derek had said it was okay, she walks right past them.
"Did you get anything?" Derek asks from his spot next to Vanessa.
"He said William Dunn was his father and they had been in contact recently. We got his phone so Vanessa can hack it and see phone records and texts, maybe that will give us something." Olivia responds, handing the cell phone to the technical analyst who plugs it into a few things and behind typing on one of her computers.
"He did deny ever meeting or touching any of the women, though," Jake sighs, sitting on the table and crossing his arms.
"Well, he could be telling the truth. Maybe his father threatened him somehow, or just told him to deliver the pictures. Maybe he had no clue what his father was doing." Maggie speculates, joining their conversation.
"We still don't know for sure that Dunn is even our unsub. He fits the profile but we don't have any solid evidence to charge him with anything. We don't even know where he is." Ryan cuts in as well.
"Looks like Matthew was making calls four times a week to different cell phones with the same area code. And before you ask, they're prepaid so I can't track the location, all I can see is that they're from here in Seattle. Matthew wasn't much of a texter, guess that comes with the whole no friends no family thing." Vanessa gives them information, mixing it in with her own comments and opinions as always.
"Think those phones are from William Dunn?" Olivia asks, more a statement than a question.
"I can't backhack the phone conversations, already tried," Vanessa growls.
"There's got to be something, anything on this guy. Does he own any properties anywhere?" Olivia asks and Vanessa is back on alert, surfing the dark web for information.
"Two hundred acres of land, but as far as I can tell there aren't any large properties. He could have small houses or something, those won't show up on my search."
"We can't search two hundred acres of land. There's got to be something else." Jake says.
The FBI agents are so wrapped up in their own conversations, they forget about the two surgeons sitting silently a few feet away. Cristina and Alex are soaking up the information as it comes out of the agents' mouths.
Cristina has seen the way this team works before. They all voice their thoughts, building on one another theories, and using every possible thing they can to find a solution, but Alex hasn't. It is quite the sight.
When someone watches the news, all they see is what the FBI wants them to see. They see only the successes or failures by what's fed to them by the press. News companies come up with their own theories and stories, even if they are based on facts, especially when it comes to subjects like this.
Alex hasn't seen what it looks like from the inside, how it all works. They're like parts of a well-oiled machine, working together perfectly to achieve a task. Part of him is impressed, but the other part still burns with hatred towards Derek Shepherd, blaming him for Meredith's abduction in the first place.
