"Grey-Sloan Memorial emergency, how can we help you today?" Nuse Amanda says into the phone she just picked up from her seat at the front desk in the ER.
"This is SSA Derek Shepherd with the FBI, we're going out to make an arrest and will need medical backup as soon as possible." A man's voice returns through the phone.
Upon hearing FBI, Amanda is alert and moving rapidly around the front desk. "What's your address?"
"610 5th Avenue, the police station."
"Got it. An ambulance with doctors on board will be there in ten minutes."
"Thank you." He says, and the phone goes dead. It doesn't take a genius to put together why an FBI agent would be calling, they've found The Scarlet Killer and are going to arrest him. The medical backup is only for Meredith Grey.
Amanda pages Chief Bailey, Alex Karev, and Cristina Yang, knowing they will all want to be here as soon as the ambulance gets back. She also pages trauma and any on-duty paramedics to send in the ambulance.
Cristina and Alex are both in her office when their pagers go off. It's nighttime and they're not allowed to operate, so when both beep at the same time to the same place, it's a cause for alarm. The surgeons are immediately on their feet and headed down to the ER.
When they get there, Bailey is standing at the front desk talking to a nurse, two paramedics, and April Kepner.
"What the hell is going on?" Alex demands as soon as they're close enough to be heard. The Emergency Room is bustling around them. Cristina takes in the way April is dressed, a GSM jacket, hair pulled back, and a large red medical bag slung over her shoulder. She looks like she's about to go out in the field.
"We got a call a minute ago from Agent Shepherd requesting medical backup, they're going to make an arrest, which would mean the ambulance is for Meredith. They've got a location." Bailey explains.
The floor drops from beneath Cristina's feet, a hurricane of emotions taking over her at once. She's pretty sure the only thing that keeps her from passing out right then and there is Alex blindly reaching out to her.
She grasps his hand, wanting to say something, anything, but her brain is too shocked to function. Alex is the same way. They might have found Meredith. The hope that Alex had given up on rises again, and suddenly it's overpowering. Cristina finally no longer has to cling to what shreds of hope remained in her for so long.
In a whirlwind in front of them, Bailey sends the paramedics and April off in an ambulance, sirens blaring and turns back to the two surgeons, whose jaws are hanging open and can't clear their thoughts of anything but Meredith.
"You two, no practicing medicine until we get word back about Grey." She orders. "Sit."
They obey, collapsing into two uncomfortable chairs closest to the emergency entrance. Neither of them needs to say anything because there's nothing to say. All they can do is sit, wait, and hope for good news.
The door to the cabin swings open, making a loud creaking noise as it does. Derek barley had to pound on it. He sends a few hand signals to the SWAT team, who start to check out the rest of the clearing outside that the cabin is in the middle of.
Derek's FBI team splits, each holding their guns out in front of them, going through each room of the house, shouting a clear every time they come up empty. Derek works his way around, fighting to keep his head clear and ignore the emotions raging through his body. A mix of anger, sadness, hope, and fear.
He clears the room he's in and meets the rest of his team at the bottom of the staircase in the back of the house. With a nod, he takes the lead, Olivia right next to him, making their way slowly and silently up the stairs.
