(Silverwing's POV) ~~~

"Silverwing!"

I paused from sorting my herb store and turned around. Breezepaw, my apprentice, looked at me with confusion in her eyes near the front of the medicine den. "Is this tansy or dock?" She gestured helplessly to a bundle of herbs lying at her paws. "I can't remember." She looked sad, so I swallowed a sigh and padded over to help her. She was always forgetting these things. "This is chervil." I said as I gestured to the leaves at her paws. "Not dock or tansy." I turned around and grab some dock leaves. "This is dock." I dropped them by the chervil. I turned around again and looked for tansy. I frowned and faced Breezepaw. "It seems we are out of tansy. But can you remember what its for and what we do with it?" I asked her.

She scrunched her face up in concentration. "Um, it's given in small doses and cures cough?"

Purring, I nodded my head. "Exactly." Her green eyes lightened up at my words. "Now," I reached behind me yet again, "Can you go and give Applepelt some Watermint?" I moved a few leaves forward. "She's been complaining of a bellyache."

Breezepaw grasped the leaves in her mouth and nodded, almost dropping them. She then padded out and bounced over to the elders den. I stifled a meow of amusement. Ever since she had become an apprentice three days ago, Breezepaw was doing everything over eagerly trying to please me. Gathering herbs with her littermates -Nightpaw and Whitepaw- and their mentors was her favorite thing to do. Speaking of herbs...

I stood up and padded out of my den, heading toward the Highstone where Stonestar sat looking out over the clan. His eyes looked full of contentment as I stopped beside him. "Yes Silverwing?" He asked as he looked up at me. His brilliant blue gaze met mine.

"I'm out of tansy and I'm very low on burdock root. Is any warrior available to go to the herb patch with me?" I ask.

"Hmm," His ears twitched as he looked down at the clan again. He paused for a few heartbeaits. "Dawnstripe can come with you." He finally meowed. I dipped my head to him and jumped down from the High Stone.

"Dawnstripe!"

She looked up from where she was laying. "Yeah, Silverwing?"

"You're coming with me to collect some herbs." I explained while she jumped up and padded over to me.

"Alright, where are we going?" She asked, her voice showing no emotion. I've always felt a bit uncomfortable around her and going out with just the two of us wasn't helping.

"The herb patch. There should be plenty of tansy there."

The older warrior nodded. "I've been there before." With that said, she walked though the camp entrance and disappeared into the dim evening light.

"I guess we're splitting up." I muttered before following Dawnstripe out.

I was walking back to camp. Some faint moonlight barely lit my way. I stumbled in a hole and cursed. At least the herb collecting was successful... Dawnstripe had a found a clump of burdock root I hadn't known about before and I had gathered enough tansy to last through leaf-bare. Dawnstripe had insisted on carrying most of the plants herself, so I just held a small bit of burdock in my jaws. I had a little trouble gathering the root, so I had sent Dawnstripe ahead. She had resisted, but I told I would be right behind her so she'd hesitantly left.

A twig snapped behind me. I whipped around and pushed my ears forward. My claws instinctively sild out as the fur along my spine lifted. I growled as threatening as I could, trying to remember all the battle moves I've ever learned and now wishing I had Dawnstripe with me.

A black tom slid from the shadows. He looked unthreating, but I stood my ground and hissed in warning.

"No need to look so scared." He meowed, his whiskers twitching in what I assume, barely held back amusement. My fur grew hot so I lowered my tail and narrowed my eyes. Oops.

He then looked at me, straight in my eyes. His green gaze drew me in. All thoughts left my mind at once and I couldn't see anything except him.

He noticed my staring and shifted his paws uncomfortably. Embarrassed, I looked away.

"Uh, anyway, what's your name?" He asked after clearing his throat.

"Silverwing." I said immediately.

"Shadow." He responded. I stared at him again as he turned and walked away.

"W-wait, where are you going?"

He paused and turned his head back towards me. "Can you meet me at the edge of twolegplace tomorrow?" He asked pleadingly. His words made me surprised and happy.

"Okay." I meowed back. He dipped his head and disappeard. My mind was muddled so I couldn't think straight.
You are a Medicine Cat, Silverwing... a small voice in my head said. I ignored it. I'm meeting Shadow again tomorrow, I can't wait!

The next moon went by in a blur, every night I met Shadow and we became closer and closer.

Each morning I've been tired and can barely focus, but Shadow is worth it.

The sun was going down and I was jumpy to go see him again.

"Umm, Silverwing?" Breezepaw asked hesitantly. I twitched my tail. Taking that as a sign to continue, she said, "Tonight is the half moon... Are you going to go to the MoonRock? It will be my first time going..."
Mouse dung... I forgot.

"Yes Breezepaw." I looked over my shoulder to see her hopeful eyes. "I'll go."

"Okay!" She bounced toward the Apprentice den, I assumed to tell her littermates. I settled down again and sighed. I'm sorry Shadow...
