Ordinary Day--Not

Today was the same as usual. I wake up and clean Sir's office and wake him up, chit chat with other servants and avoid eye contact with the princes.

But it seemed to be rather busy today, servants were running like chickens with their heads cut off.

"Orion," I whipped around to see the King. "Come with me, please." I followed behind him like a dutiful dog to his personal chambers. He poured me a cup of tea and himself a cup of bloody scotch.

"Do you know what tomorrow is, young man?" I had no clue so I shook my head. "Tomorrow is the blood soiree." I gulped. "Will...blood be spilt?"

He chuckled. "No. It's the blood moon. They signify a ball in our kingdom, and you will be in attendance."

I took a gulp of tea. "Of course, Sir. Will I be handing out hors d'oeuvres?" "No. You will be attending the soiree, as a guest."

My stomach dropped to my ankles. "Oh."

"As it is the soiree, I can't protect you from my sons. If they ask you specifically for a dance, you have to give them a dance, understood?"

I solemnly nodded. That's going to suck, hopefully not literally.

"They won't draw your blood." I blushed not knowing I said that put loud.

"My dearest Orion, they ask everyone in the kingdom, even the servants for a dance. The blood moon is the only way to find their soulmate."

My jaw slacked. "Soulmates? Like, destined lovers?" He nodded. "Oh my."

"Indeed." He smiled. "Once Klaus takes my throne, I'll be able to travel. I want to go to Turkey. The women there are gorgeous." He finished his scotch. "I just want you to be prepared. Tomorrow will be filled with life-changing events."

Life-changing? Not for me, but for his sons. His kingdom. Klaus will find someone who is weak to the prince's lethal sexiness, and will gain a kingdom and a crown.

Poor guy.

I was dismissed from Sir's room still deep in my thoughts and worries about this ball. Vampires from all over the world are going to be here. Even the asswipe ones who think humans are nothing but cattle. Even that weirdo from the suit shop.

I ran a hand through my hair as I walked through the hall, not giving Rick the glares he was so hoping to get from his absurd gay and human jokes.

Or Drew's lecherous gaze. Astros was my only friend here, a tough lesbian vampire from Iceland, who had a soft spot for me for my height and look, she told me I look like her younger brother back home.

She treated me like one, too. She taught me how to read, write, cook, clean and drive. She was the closest thing I had to a motherly figure.

"What's wrong, my little mús?" I was her little mouse. She pinhed my cheeks. "Tell systir Astrid what's wrong." Her accent was very strong, the word 'sister' seemed drawned out and purred.

"Master Tesla has decided that I have to attend the soiree as a guest." I pouted.

She seemed shocked and pulled her hands from my face.

"You know Sire Tesla can tell the future, yes? That means something very...um what's the word?"

"No, I certainly did not!" I cried. "He can tell the future, like a psychic?"

She nodded. "Yes. Only the oldest vampires can, and there's a limit to how far ahead, for Sire its three days. Now, help me with the word!"

"Horrible? Foreboding? Terrible?" I suggested. She shook her head. "No. It's when the stars align and shine upon you."

"Destined?" I asked in a hushed whisper. She grinned. "Yes! He knows that this dance has to do with your destiny! Did he tell you anything else?"

I gulped. "He said that I have to dance with both of the princes."

"Oh." Was all she could reply with.

Meanwhile:

Klaus hid behind a pillar and watched as Orion and that foreign lesbian speak. "Do you know what this means, dumb one?" He looked down at his brother who was crouched behind the pillar with him.

Klaus grinned, his fangs elongating. "Something very interesting is going to happen at that ball."

That worried and excited Vincent at the same time.
