A Not-so Birthday Celebration

'I can't even look at you' - Octavia Blake

26th June 1995

Sixteen years ago today Raven was born. She had being on this planet for sixteen years - sixteen years. She had never celebrated her birthday, never wanted to; for sixteen years ago today her mother died.

Not many people knew how her mother, Kefira Howendale, had died, she ended her own life - drowned herself after her illness had taken over her. She was nineteen, three years older than Raven was now, she would've been thirty-five; except she's dead.

Raven always blamed herself for her mother's death, ever since her Uncle Lee had told her about it, how it had happened - apparently, she stopped taking her medication to not harm the baby, the same medication Raven still takes to this day.

In her sixteen years of life, Raven had been responsible for two peoples deaths, she was murder.

Of cause, her Uncle Lee never blamed her, although she could see it in his eyes every time he looked at her; if she wasn't alive he would still have his sister - he wouldn't have had to bring up a child that was not his.

The two other schools were set to return home today, a celebration taking place contrasting to the horror over Cedric's death the day before.

Raven stood before the mirror in the fifth year girl bedroom, her sunken grey eyes glaring back at her, everyone else was already outside, saying goodbye to their friends - Raven didn't want to say goodbye, no, she didn't want to face the judgemental stares of everyone as she walked by them.

Her gaze snapped around at the sound of tapping on the murky glass window, a strange bird sat there. Its feathers where a vivid orange, and it had wide curious eyes looking into the room. Raven walked towards the window. Only as the bird hopped into the room did she notice it held a rolled up piece of parchment between its beak.

The bird nudged the side of her hand with its head, before dropping the roll of parchment down onto the windows ledge. Carefully picking the parchment up, Raven unfolded it.

Miss Howendale,

Before the ship sails in the late afternoon, I invite you to my office to discuss recent matters.

Albus Dumbledore

p.s please make sure my Phoenix Fawks finds his way back to my office, will you?

Raven sighed, placing the letter down on the window ledge before opening the window and allowing the Phoenix to fly out of it, she closed her eyes as the warm summer air brushed against her pale face.

Dumbledore's office was different compared to what Raven remembered it as, she no longer felt safe in here, like she had moments before the final task - before Cedric's death. She could see the same plush chair she had sat in while waiting for the headmaster to return to his office - the other chair she had sat in beside her uncle Lee as Dumbledore was warning her about the final task. Raven felt her eyes grow dark at that - he knew - he knew and he did nothing about it.
