(Her heart pounded in her chest as the hot Chicago air filled her lungs. Her legs felt numb, and her eyes felt like they were gonna come out of her head with the heat exhaustion she can feel herself slowly suffering from. As she slowed her pace on the sand she turned her head to look at the water, the pink, orange and purple sunrise filling the sky)

E<"it's beautiful"(she whispered out of breathe)

(She turned her head and looked at him before turning her attention back on the water)

J<"it is isn't it,(he squinted his eyes, taking in a hard breathe),welcome to my office"(his arms opened wide)

E<"your office"?(she laughed, starting to walk again on the sand, standing side by side with jay)

J<"yeah. It's my job. At least one of em,(he stared down at his feet while they walked),did you like the warm up"?

E<"ha...can I be completely honest with you?(she asked looking up at him, still struggling to control her breathing),I hated it,(she smiled when he chuckled),I haven't ran like that in years"

J<"yeah everyone tells me my warm ups are like the actual work outs"

E<"well whoever told you that..are one hundred percent right. I'm already dead and we only just ran twice back and forth from one end of the beach to the other"

J<"hey, give yourself more credit,(he leaned down and picked up his shoe that he dropped),not a lot of people can even make it halfway. Running on sand isn't easy"

E<"yeah I guess,(she said, swinging her arms as she also held her shoes. They walked in the sand barefoot, loving the feeling of the hot sand sinking between their toes),when I used to run I ran on turf or the track rally"

J<"ahhh so you were a runner for school"?

E<"yup..came in first place for everyone of my races. Hurdles, fifty five meter, long jump. You name it I did it"

J<"so pole volting"

E<"okay maybe not everything,(she laughed with him),what about you, you look like you definitely played football in school"

J<"what gave it away"?(he smiled)

E<"your physique. You look like a football player"

J<"I'm taking that as a compliment"(he said stopping short and standing infront of the water)

E<"it is,(she said before looking at him confused),we going for another round"?

J<"no,(he used his arms and pulled his shirt over his head, revealing his toned upper body),I go for a swim as my other warm up cardio,(he walked his way slowly into the water before looking at her),wanna try"?

E<"nah I'll stay over here"(she said, hesitating to even get her feet wet)

J<"you sure? I can hold your hand"

E<"I'm positive,(she waved her hand),you go, I'll work on trying to catch my breathe still"

J<"okay. Just give me five minutes"

(Erin nodded and then watched him dive into the water, turning her head to the sounds of people talking. Other lifeguards showed up in their red shorts, all walking in her direction shirtless with their bags and the buoy hanging over their shoulders. She brought the corner of her mouth into a grin when they nodded their heads in her direction before by passing her, giving them only a mile of space between them, allowing them to start their practice. She turned her head back to the water and watched jay start paddling back to the shore. He made it seem so easy)
