Max pulled into the neighborhood, frantically searching for Caleb’s old-styled home on the side of the street. As Max drove, a sudden glimpse of movement caught his eye as he passed the old park that had been sealed shut for years. His eyes observed the strange movement, which was just seen from the moonlight. It was a dog, a rather large dog. As Max put the Corvette into park alongside the street, he could hear the whimpering of the animal which sounded to be in pain. He hadn’t cared too much for pets or animals, but the howling was strange to him, and the size of the animal was just as strange.

As Max emerged from his vehicle, he stepped to the gates of the park. He squinted through the bars, seeing the dark colored animal whimpering at its own feet. It picked its head up, staring in Max’s direction, huffing its breath into clouds into the bitter air. At that moment, a raggedly, gaudy station-wagon pulled to the scene, and a woman with curly, untamed hair jolted from her drivers seat, approaching Max in hectic steps.

“I think there’s a bear in the park. I should call animal control, I think its hurt.” Max began to reach into his pocket, reaching his cellphone in his jeans.

“No, no!” Elsie gripped Max’s jacket sleeve, preventing him from doing such.

“What’s the problem?” Max’s eyes narrowed to her.

“You need to leave, you need to go.” Elsie tried shoving Max towards his vehicle.

At that moment, the beast had made its way to the ironed gates. The black silhouette shined its fur in the silverlight. It’s eyes, glowing in a yellowed shade, stared at them at the opposite side of the gate.

“What the hell…” Max breathed as the two stayed still at the approach. It began to snarl in a lowed tone. It stepped along the bars and Max could see the shoulder blades of the animal pop when each foot touched the Earth. Elsie had been afraid as well, not ever seeing her brother phase.

Suddenly, it lunged at the bars, barking and growling harshly, making them step back for their own safety.

“What the hell is that?’ Max stared with interested eyes at the beast.

“I told you, you need to go. Now.” Elsie pushed him again.

The moon hid once again behind the clouds. The silver light began to fade, as well as the wolf inside of Caleb. The beast began to whimper once again and its bones could be heard cracking from miles away. Elsie closed her eyes, not wanting to witness the horrifying transformation back to her younger brother. Max stood with wide eyes, watching as the once terrifying, furred animal morphed into a friend.

“Caleb?” Max spoke, looking at the bloodied, nude boy who laid on the grass of the park, shivering.

Elsie’s eyes shot at Max. “You know him?”

“Yeah, he goes to my school. What the hell just happened?” He spoke nervously.

“Never mind that.” Elsie stomped to the trunk of her station-wagon, pulling out a pair of wire cutters. She clipped the gate lock, opening the rusty gate to retrieve her shaking brother.

“Get him in my car.” Elsie was slightly disgruntled by her brother’s nakedness, and opted to get in her drivers seat and start the car. Max hauled a pained Caleb over his shoulder, getting the blood of the beast on his shirt and jacket. He placed Caleb into Elsie’s back seat, making Caleb moan in displeasure. As soon as Max slammed the back door, Elsie revved the engine and fled the scene. Max followed not far behind.
