Caleb hadn’t been sure of why someone would steal another person’s dead body. He had been quite sure of one thing though, that whatever it was that had killed Emily Marshal had been the one to blame for her disappearance. The only evidence Caleb had to prove of this was the simple, flesh painted fang he had in a safe place in his bedroom. Knowing who the fang belonged to was an entirely different story.

Caleb threw his backpack onto his shoulder, readying to leave school grounds that afternoon. As he entered the front of the school, his eyes were attracted to an odd crowding of students gathering to form a wall around something that had fascinated them. The hectic scene intrigued Caleb, who stepped to the students who seemed uncanny about the situation.

“Someone call nine-one-one!” A female voice shouted.

Caleb managed to make his way through the students, penetrating the curious wall.

Two freshman girls knelt to the grass; one holding the head of another who looked to have been passed out as the other hysterically panicked. Students watched the eccentric girls, begging for assistance for their friend.

Caleb observed the limp girl. He had noticed her, maybe he had met her before. Her skin was dull, as well as her veiny eyelids. Her hair was blonde and a bit untamed as if it hadn’t been brushed in weeks. She wore a sweet, coral pink sweater, which made her dull hair and skin seem as pale as paper.

“Move, get out of the way!” A school nurse rushed through the crowd, aiding the girl who lied almost lifeless.

“What happened?” The nurse questioned, trying to take control of the situation.

“I… I don’t know!” Another girl cried next to her friend. “She just… passed out! She said she hadn’t been feeling well.”

The nurse dialed an emergency number as Principle Kendrick and other staff personnel arrived to the occurrence in the school yard, corralling students away from the girl. Caleb had taken a stance in the distance, watching eagerly as the nurse tried to sustain the girl.

“What the hell happened here?” Max had strolled to Caleb’s side, watching with less curiosity as Caleb had.

“Some freshman.” Caleb informed, keeping his eyes on the scene some twenty feet away.

“Freshman?” Max questioned.

“Some blonde girl.” Caleb thought.

Max pondered for a moment before taking action. He waltzed to the scene, not quite caring if Principle Kendrick were to punish him for it.

“Move along, Mr. Finch.” Principle Kendrick stood like a mother bear guarding her cubs.

Max looked over the chubby man’s shoulder, seeing Amelia laying in aid like a paper weight in the nurse’s arms. Max was quick to make his way around the fat man, avoiding his demands to move along.

“Mr. Finch!” He called.

Caleb sighed, supposing he do something about his friend.

“What happened? What happened?” Max questioned, kneeling to the ground beside her.

“Mr. Finch, please!” Principle Kendrick took him by his blazer shoulders, pulling him from the girl’s side.

Caleb reached the scene, pressing a single palm to Max’s shoulder, pulling him away.

“Let them handle it.” Caleb spoke as he finally recognized the girl, watching an ambulance enter the school parking lot - which had caught the attention of the students who had been scurrying from campus.
