A/N I am English so I am gonna make the school like I know it, not like American high school because I know I'll get it wrong so yh. Tris starts off 15 years old in year 11, the year she finishes her GSCE's.
Tris POV
My alarm shrieks and I roll over, pushing my head further into my pillow to muffle the noise. Another day at that hell-hole called school. Wait. I am starting at a new school today - Factions Academy. Me and my brother Caleb had to move away with our mum because our parents split up. Luckily, I have the best family in the world because my parents were selfless and didn't split me and Caleb up.
I tear off my duvet and roll out of bed to the bathroom to shower. After showering, I blow-dry my soaked mass of hair then fasten it into a simple ponytail, moisturise my face and lips then walk to my dresser. I pull out my new uniform- consisting of a white shirt, charcoal-grey blazer, a maroon tie and greay pleated skirt - then sling my tan satchel over my shoulder and skip down the stairs.
My mum stands over the stove and begins to flip the pancake that occupies her frying pan. Caleb is already at the table, gobbling his peanutbutter-smothered pancake as though it was about to run away and I let out a light chuckle. I call out, "Hi mum!" and she jumps a little which causes me to laugh harder.
"Beatrice honey. You need to make more noise coming down the stairs or you'll give me a heart attack!"
"Sorry mum." I say with a happy smirk and sit down at the table.
Seconds later she slides a pancake, coated with lemon and sugar, infront of me along with a glass of water. With immense enthusiasm, I thank her and dig in, the sweetened lemon solution dribbling past my lips and down my chin.
After finishing my breakfast, I wipe my mouth and head out the door with my brother and my satchel. The school isn't too far away - only 30 min walk. We don't have a car any more because with the break up, we sold it so both mum and dad could have decent homes.
My family doesn't like to spend a lot of money. Unlike most teenage "cool" girls, I don't go shopping nearly every weekend and the money that I save, I invest in more books/ textbooks or give to charity. I also do a sponsored 15 mile walk every term to raise money for charities so I guess that you can call me seriously uncool.
I also do ballet and am on Advanced 2. That is the highest grade before solo seal which basically means you're professional. Added to this, I play the violin and I have already got a distinction at grade 8 and am working towards my diplpoma (basically music version of solo seal). I am so lucky that I am, ontop of this, smart. But I really, more than anything, hate attention. I can't stress how strongly I mean it!
I grab my keys from the rack and me and Caleb head out of the door to embark on our 30 minute walk to school.
-----------------
"We are nearly there, Beatrice."
"Ok. But can you not call me that please. I think I want to be called Bea, I don't know yet, but definitely not Beatrice.,
"Ok er... Bea." He says with a small snigger. Then I playfully punch his arm: he mocked me!
I look up only to find a very tall, concrete building with a large blue sign reading "Factions Academy". I take a deep breath and swing the great glass door open.
I turn my head but have no where that I can think to go - the space is packed with loud, confident bodies to-ing and fro-ing. I attempt to slip through the crowd but end up bumping into a popular-looking girl with short, dark brown hair and mocha skin. I mumble a quick sorry and scarper before she can scold me for my carelessness.
