The hours of the night that followed John B's disappearance were nothing short of chaotic. The group of four could only assume that Ward was John B's only target and they feared what John B would do to him. JJ and Affinity were the first ones to load themselves into the HMS Pogue and started it up so they could hopefully reach Figure 8 before John B could. Kiara and Pope weren't far behind and hopped into the backseat. JJ pulled the boat out from the dock to take off into the canal.

JJ exchanged his glance between the water and Affinity. "You don't think he'll actually-"

"No," Affinity answered shortly. "Just please drive faster."

JJ nodded and pushed the lever downward to propel them forward faster. Affinity kept her eyes locked on the island, looking for any sign of John B on the dirt roads. But it had soon become more difficult as the sun started to set, letting the darkness consume all of their surroundings.

Once JJ pulled into the part of the harbor where the Cameron's house was located, he parked behind Ward's boat so they could remain somewhat hidden but still able to see inside the house. Their eyes peaked over the greenery ahead just enough that they could see Ward and Jen talking intently in Wards's study. Ward had a bandage across his arm, seeming completely fine to Affinity, and Jen stood before him, pacing back and forth as she waved her hands around.

"You don't think John B shot him in the arm do you?" Kiara asked worryingly.

"No," Pope answered as he lifted his binoculars to his eyes. "I don't think so, he would have to go to the hospital. It doesn't look like John B was here." It was about the one time the group was relieved to see Ward Cameron. "Ward looks very much alive."

"Which is a good and bad thing," Affinity muttered under her breath. "We have to keep looking."

"Look, I've never seen John B like that. We should honestly be going to the cops," Kiara snapped back.

"Kiara, they don't just believe people like us!" JJ shouted. "What do we say? Hm? We are worried about our friend because he's on a rampage because Ward killed Big John!"

"Guys, look, it seems like Ward is fine which means John B wasn't here! Let's just go!" Pope urged.

Kiara shot him a disgusted look. "Are you kidding me?"

"Ki, I have the biggest day of my life in six hours!" Pope retaliated angrily.

"Yeah, well, our friend is in trouble," Kiara spat.

"I'm in trouble! I haven't been home in three days! My dad has probably put all my shit on the street by now."

"So that's it? In a time of need, you're just gonna bail? You're just going to walk away?"

Affinity could see how glossy Kiara's eyes were. She placed a hand on the girl's shoulder.

"Ki, he has a point-"
