By the next morning, Josi's good mood was gone. She was used to her stepmother and stepsisters trying their best to ruin her day, starting with her mornings, and while she sometimes found a way to turn things around in her favor, today wasn't one of such days.
She woke up minutes before her alarm and started to get ready. She usually didn't put so much effort on how she looked, and today was no different. This meant she was ready in under a few of minutes and went ahead to check up on Kitty May.
The thirteen-year-old might have gotten her mother's blonde hair—hers surprisingly curlier and more voluminous—as well as her green eyes and caucasian skin, but that was where the resemblance stopped. Her small lips and button nose she got from her dad's side of the family, which made her the one who even remotely looked like Josi.
Kitty May gave a lot more trouble than usual that morning. She was set on not going to school, claiming she could already predict how boring her Tuesday would be since her partner in crime, aka her best friend, was home sick.
Kitty May was a good kid, notably smart for her age. Josi loved spending time with her, she had practically raised her. But the girl's smart mouth and her penchant for getting into trouble could be frustrating. Like now. It took almost half an hour and numerous bribes to convince her to get up but Josi did.
Once that was settled, Josi went back to her room to grab the rest of her things. As soon as she got there, her eyes went to the black jacket draped over a beanbag. She should return it today, she thought. But she didn't want to, she was still soaking up how good it smelled. Yes, she had spent the better part of last night sniffing it.
She hadn't even washed it, ergo, she couldn't return it yet. This was the excuse she gave herself so as to hold on to it a little longer. As long as he didn't know what she did with his jacket, she was okay with being a sniffing weirdo. Especially if it meant being able to sniff it some more.
Okay, now you sound like an obsessed creep, Josi.
Rolling her eyes at herself, she made her way downstairs with her bag hanging over one shoulder. She found Kitty May at the dining table eating breakfast, along with Pamela and Penelope.
An easy way to tell the twins apart was through their clothes. Pamela's choice of clothes were more practical and cool in a badass kind of way. Penelope tended to go for a more girlish style, always with a splash of pink. She'd even gotten pink highlights added to her golden blonde hair.
Today she wore a white low-cut tank top and a pink mini skirt with ruffles, cinched at her waist with a red belt. Hanging over her lap was the red designer jacket—her favorite—she'd gotten from one of her exes. Her shoes were simple for once, pink platform heels, and her makeup was surprisingly not as heavy as usual although still a little too much. She had on her favorite necklace, as well as a pair of diamond pink earrings she'd taken from Josi. The necklace, a beautiful rose pink crystal piece, was a Christmas gift from their dad. She wore it almost all the time. Josi's present had been the earrings, which Penelope claimed for herself because they apparently went so well with her necklace.
Pamela went for a less revealing and more neutral look—a black sleeveless crop top, black ripped tights and a purple jacket. Her makeup was light, but instead of leaving her long blonde hair down over her shoulders like her twin, she held hers in a high ponytail. Her beauty was one that was almost effortless and the only jewelry she wore was black cartilage ear cuffs.
But no matter how different they dressed, the twins were still the same on the inside. Supercilious, spoilt and petty.
Pamela proved this by sneering at Josi as soon as she walked into the room. "You put in a little more effort today? Too bad, it doesn't make you any less of a slug."
