Hey, Meg," Josi greeted, joining her best friend at her locker once they left their AP Calculus class.Megan glanced at her, returning her smile. "What's up, girlfriend? You're in a good mood," she noted.
Josi merely shrugged.
Megan shot her a suspicious look. "Lemme guess, you're happy Mr. Hanson had that emergency last period so he dismissed class early."
Josi shrugged again. "What can I say? Guilty as charged."
Megan just shook her head and shut her locker. "You ready to leave?" She eyed the textbook in Josi's hands.
"Yup."
Megan shot her another look. "You're taking the textbook home? Really, Josi?"
Josi feigned innocence. "What? I need it to study. I want to try harder in AP Calculus."
Megan's look said it all, she didn't believe her. "Uh-huh. And this has nothing to do with you avoiding your locker partner."
That innocent look turned even more innocent. Mother Theresa had nothing on Josi Morales that moment. "Of course not."
"Josi."
"Megan."
"Why have you been avoiding Caleb all week?"
A lot of reasons, Josi answered silently. At first it was because of what she had discovered Monday morning. Then it was because of how she had behaved Monday afternoon when he came to DaDiva with Kiara. Now, she wasn't so sure. She just thought it'd be better if she didn't talk to him anymore. If there was something her behavior at work had proved, it was that she was becoming too comfortable with him. How could she have joked right back with him, said all that? The only person she was that free with was Megan. She had been so mortified she had sent M.J.—who had been more than happy to comply—to take their orders and wait on them. She'd even dived into the kitchen as they were leaving to avoid talking to them again.
Now it was Thursday and she had successfully avoided Caleb so far. She however hadn't realized Megan knew what she was up to.
"Like I said, I'm not avoiding him," she lied.
Megan didn't look convinced but thankfully let it go. "Alright. Let me get you home. I need enough time to prepare for my date with Chris."
"Another date, huh? The second one this week. Looks like someone's got herself a new boyfriend," Josi teased.
Megan rolled her eyes. "I'm not gonna get my hopes up. He could just be doing it 'cause he's bored. Or trying to make his ex jealous. Did I tell you he dated Aimee Martinez?" Megan spat out the name with disgust.
With good reason, too. Aimee Martinez was one of Kehlani's cheerleader friends. Blonde, blue-eyed and catty. She was just as fake as all the other cheerleaders, except Kehlani of course. Kehlani, as their captain, was the only one who wasn't an outright bitch, and who didn't see the need to dye her hair blonde. Whether to stand out as their leader or she didn't care to fit in, who knew?
"Apparently," Megan continued, leading the way to her car, "Aimee cheated on him and he broke up with her when he found out. But they were together for months and I don't think he's completely over her."
