It took Josi a minute to recover from her shock, and when she did, she discovered she was smiling. She didn't know what the hell just happened or if that qualified as Caleb Flynn making a pass at her, but she chose to chalk it up to a weird but interesting Saturday morning. She smoothed back some of her hair that had gotten loose as she turned and made her way to Megan's porch.
Megan's house was beautiful. A two-storey white suburban house, nothing too prissy. It had quite a homy feel to it and Josi supposed that was what drew her in, besides the owners. It had to, this place often served as her refuge, to help her escape her stepmom. Too bad she couldn't visit as much as she liked, especially these past couple of weeks with Tammy keeping her too busy.
Josi rang the doorbell but didn't get any reply for a few minutes. She was about to ring again when the door swung open and revealed an older looking version of Megan with vibrant, red curls, smiling green eyes and painted red lips pulled up into a welcoming smile. "Josi, it's been a while. Sorry it took so long to answer. I actually saw you from the window up in the attic. But I'm cleaning and there were a lot of things to get past on my way down." She let Josi in and into the living room, shutting the door after her.
Josi hoped she hadn't seen too much from up there. "No problem, Mrs. K." For as long as she remembered, Amanda Kurt never let Josi call her anything too formal, so Josi had settled for Mrs. K. "Oh, and good morning."
"I'm sure it is for you," Amanda replied in her Texas twang, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively at Josi. Josi braced herself for the ribbing. Amanda was a carefree and playful person, why she was one of the most popular moms in town. It also didn't hurt that she didn't look a day over twenty despite being in her early forties. Despite all her jesting though, she was a really sensitive and caring woman. She might not know about Josi's situation, but she'd always treated Josi like her second daughter.
"I guess," Josi responded, trying to act clueless. If she didn't look guilty Amanda wouldn't ask questions, right?
Wrong. "You can pretend all you like but I know," she said.
Josi held on to her act. "Know what?" She added a confused frown for good measure.
Amanda wasn't buying it though. "Know who drove you here. I'd recognize that gorgeous piece of man meat, Caleb Flynn, anywhere."
Josi's eyes widened. "Jesus, Mrs. K!"
Amanda laughed, entering into their stately, white kitchen with Josi right behind her. She got two mugs out and poured them both coffee after confirming from Josi. She handed the mug with plenty of cream and little sugar to Josi, waiting till she was seated at the counter enjoying her coffee before she continued. "There's no fooling me, darlin'. You can't tell me you haven't noticed that boy is blessed exceptionally well in the looks department."
She had, Josi admitted to herself begrudgingly.
"When did you start hanging out with him?" Amanda inquired curiously.
"This morning. Honestly," Josi added when Amanda shot her a disbelieving look. "We ran into each other and he was in need of company so he invited me to have breakfast with him. Then he offered to drop me off here and here we are. That's all that happened." She stressed on that last part because she knew if she didn't, Amanda would start getting funny ideas.
Amanda waved a hand in the air dismissively, as if nothing more had crossed her mind. Josi knew it had. The devious woman. "Alright, don't bite my head off. Nothing happened, and I especially didn't see you two were peeling each other's clothes off with just your eyes. Or how he was grinding into you against his car."
