Joel's POV
Be yourself.
People make it sound easy. I can't lie, I'm pretty nervous and the thing is, I'm pretty nervous. I'm not even asking her out.
I just can't lose my first friend.
I've been watching her for some time now; and no, I'm not a stalker. She's under a tree near the soccer field and I think this is the right time to talk to her. I don't want to.
My legs are moving against my will and I'm getting closer to her until I'm close enough for her to notice me.
She looks up to me and puts on a straight face.
"What do you want this time?"
"I-- um-- err---"
"If you plan to look and gape at me like a fish and say complete nonsense, I'm not interested. I don't have all day y'know."
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get angry and say all that bullshit. I'm freaking sorry. Please forgive me."
She stays quiet for a while.
"I'll think about it."
"Okay." I hug her and she stiffened but hugs me back.
"Don't get your hopes up. I haven't forgiven you yet."
And with that, she leaves. She's hard to crack but I won't stop until she forgives me.
Amanda's POV
Joel has gone all out throughout this week. He's determined to get my forgiveness and I'll give him that one.
There were no roses and chocolates, thank God for that. I find it too common and cheesy.
The bell knocks me out of my thoughts and I head out of the class.
Zane is leaning on his locker looking at something. I trace his sight and find out that he's looking at a guy. Oh, that's Jeremy.
But something is weird about the way he's looking at him. Like he.....likes him.
Oh my ghad. Is Zane....gay?!
I walk up to him and cough out and he looks at me, surprised.
"Um... I..." He stutters.
"What where--" He cuts me off.
"I'm not gay!"
"I never said you were-- Oh Lord! You are gay!"
"I'm not." He doesn't look at me and then I know for sure that he's lying.
I raise an eyebrow and cross my arms.
"Okay okay, I'm gay but don't tell anyone." He whispers.
"So I can't tell Aliya?"
"Well, except her."
"But why didn't you tell us?"
"Um... I was scared?"
"Scared? Please, I always wanted to know how it feels like to have a gay friend."
"You're not mad?"
"No. Why should I be?"
Before he could respond, I pulled him into a hug.
"I'm glad you opened up Z."
We parted and I saw Joel coming towards me. We haven't made up yet. I'm not mad at him really but he doesn't know that.
"Can I have a minute with you... please?"
"Uh... Sure."
We walk away from Zane and he turns to me.
"I was wondering...." He stops.
"Go on."
"I was wondering if you could go on a date with me."
That's surprising.
"As friends." He adds quickly.
"We aren't friends. You said it yourself."
"I'm so sorry. I'm trying to make things right just give me a chance. Please."
Should I?
I think you should. He has tried enough though. And he's trying hard.
"I'll go."
"Thank you so much. You won't regret it."
As I was about to respond, Aliya and Zane rush to us with panicked expressions on their faces.
"Yo, what's up with you guys?"
"It's bad. Really bad." Zane said
"What's bad?"
I'm really confused right now.
"Promise me you won't freak out." Aliya pleads with me.
"I can't say. Just answer me. What's going on."
"He is back."
"He?"
What came out from her next made my world start crashing down.
"Austin"
