Sarah's P.O.V
After he left, I got up to see where the twins had gone.
"Angel! Noah! Where are you?" I called. I went into their room and found them asleep. I smiled softly and walked downstairs. I decided I would wake up super early.
I had it all figured out; I would take Angel and Noah to Lila's house, and Annette and Rey would play with them until I got home from work. That way, I wouldn't run into Jack, and he wouldn't have a chance to 'help' me.
Next Day
I woke up at 5:00 and walked into Noah and Angel's room, waking them up.
"C'mon kids, we're going to Annette and Rey's house!" I said.
"Wokay Mowy," Angel muttered sleepily. I picked up my kids and grabbed my bag. I would have left a note for Jack, but he wouldn't be able to get in, and I hated him. We walked outside and took the bus to Lila's house. I explained the situation to her, and she nodded.
"Angel! Noah!" 10-year-old Annette yelled, running to her 'cousins'. She picked up Angel. Rey, at eight, picked up five-year-old Noah.
"Thank y'all so much!" I said, running out to catch the bus for work.
I can't believe he shows up after eight years asking for help. Eight years! He is so RUDE
I pushed away my thoughts and climbed on the bus.
I smiled at the bus driver and took a seat.
I sat, thinking, for minutes as the bus rolled not-so-merrily along. I got out at my stop, only to find him waiting for me...
I was shocked.
"WHY ARE YOU HERE?? You can't stay out of my life, can you? You dump me, and then come back eight years later, asking for HELP!" I was sure we were making a scene, but I didn't care; much.
I silently pulled my red hair back into a messy bun hanging at the back of my neck.
"What. Do. You. Want? Why won't you leave me alone?" He looked shocked, probably because I just yelled at him. Well, get used to it.
"Прости, Сара. Пожалуйста, прости меня. Мне требуется ваша помощь."
(I'm sorry Sarah. Please forgive me. I need your help.)
He was probably trying to outsmart me or something, but luckily I knew Russian.
"Хм ... Нет, спасибо. Ты был придурком, и зачем мне тебе помогать?"
(Hm... No thanks. You were a jerk, and so why should I help you?) He sighed in response, but I wasn't finished.
"Δεν σκεφτήκατε πώς θα ένιωθα, απλά έπρεπε να είσαι δημοφιλής. Όχι, Τζακ, τελείωσα."
(You didn't think of how I would feel, you just had to be popular. No, Jack, I'm done.)
I stormed away.
Jack's P.O.V
As my love stormed away, I sighed. I had tried to impress her with Russian, but she just got angrier. And I really needed her help.
I pulled up the hood of my sweatshirt and ran. If the police caught me here, well... I'd be dead.
I was lucky I had always loved running.
I would run during football... Football, the thing that had ruined my life.
I would run with Sarah. Jess never even liked to walk down the hallways without someone carrying her or supporting her. I knew I had made a mistake dumping Sarah when...
FLORIDA UNIVERSITY, PAST:
I had just broken up with Sarah. I walked over to Jess and asked her out.
"Sorry, Jack. You're cute and all, but I'm already dating Nat." She said in a sugary sweet voice and pointed at Nat, a guy on my football team.
"Ok," I said and walked away. I tried to get back with Sarah, but she ignored me.
"Sarah!!" I called. She looked at her friend.
"Did you hear something?" Her friend shook her head.
"Nope. I heard the Undesirable No. 1, but he's not important," Sarah smirked and waltzed off.
NEW YORK, PRESENT:
I finally stopped running away from the bus station. Just my luck, I saw two cops heading my way. They hadn't recognized me yet, so I speed walked into a local store.
I caught my breath and looked around. It looked like a normal store; rows of postcards, trinkets, and shelves of food.
Unfortunately, Sarah was standing behind the counter, glaring at me.
"Sarah. We need to talk." I said, grabbing her arm and pulling her towards the window.
"I don't want to talk to you," she snapped.
"I need you- your help," I finished, saving myself.
She sighed. "If it'll make you leave, fine,"
Jack's P.O.V:
"What? Really?" I could have hugged her, but I wasn't about to press my luck.
"Yes," She said.
"You won't regret it!"
She sighed. "I already have, Jack."
"I'll help you pay rent," I casually offered.
She sighed. "Just tell me what you need." I nodded.
"We have to fake a relationship. Then you will give me an alibi, and I won't get arrested." I said.
She made the wait sign. "What? Why are you going to be arrested?"
I sighed, but I knew I had to tell her. "I was accused of murder. To a twenty-five-year-old named Julie, who I went out with once. Which I didn't do!" I added at the end, seeing her enraged look.
"Fine. Not that I believe you, but... Do you have the contract on you?" I handed it over. She signed reluctantly, without reading it. She hated me, I knew.
