It was a hot day. I am painfully pedaling up a hill on my racing bike. It felt like forever since I began the climb. The heat, the exhaustion. It was too painful to bear.
But once I reached the peak, those bad feelings went away in an instant. I put my head down to reduce drag and started to roll down the hill.
It was the best feeling. The feeling of the wind, the sense of speed. The speed of which I am going could easily exceed 80 km/h.
I see that the finish line is just within reach. I am already thinking about the next race. The next time that I would roll down a hill at blistering speeds. The next time I will be standing on the podium holding the next trophy in front of a cheering crowd.
This is all I wanted to do my entire life. I'll never want to quit racing. But life had other plans.
. . .
My eyes shot open and I'm covered in cold sweat, breathing heavily. I see the familiar ceiling of my room and I got up. After a while, my breathing went back to normal as I calmed myself down. I looked down at my feet and moved them a little.
Akiri: (thoughts) It's just a dream...
It has been a while since I had a nightmare about that day. It was mostly because I would be so busy, I didn't have the chance to think about other stuff.
I took a glance at my alarm clock.
Akiri: (thoughts) 11:42. Noon already, huh?
Even though today's a Sunday, I've slept too long. On Sundays, I don't need to prepare breakfast and as for the other jobs, me and Aoi had already done most of them yesterday.
Akiri: (thoughts) A Sunday with nothing to do. It's a day off then
I hopped off the bed and got on my feet. As soon as I did, I heard someone knock on the door.
Sanae: Akiri, are you awake?
I recognize the voice to be Sanae's.
Akiri: Yeah, yeah! I'm awake!
I shouted as I went to the door and opened it.
Akiri: What is it?
Sanae: You have a visitor. He's waiting at the entrance hall
Akiri: I see. Thanks Sanae, I'll be there one sec
I closed the door and quickly got changed. I then left the room.
I walked into the entrance hall to see Aoi talking with someone else.
I immediately recognize him to be Tatsuya Higarashi, or An-chan as we all call him.
Akiri: An-chan?
Tatsuya: Yo, Akiri
Aoi: Good, you're here now. You ready to go?
Akiri: Go? Where are we going?
