Golden sunlight warmed up the king's study. He had supported his head with his hands, one corner of his mouth was raised but the rest of his face did not follow. Several times he lifted his head, only to let it fall back onto his fists.

The employee standing in front of him did not dare look up, but he frightened her. Why did he react like that.
She flinched when she heard him laugh. Out of the corner of her eye she could see him still banging his forehead against his fists.
"Gone, all for nothing..."

The employee was still scared, but pitied him anyway.
"My King, I don't know what you're mourning right now, but I'm sure it's not over yet."
That one second she looked up, she knew she shouldn't have.

Hongjoong was not one of those people who felt sorry for it, on the contrary, he hated being pitied. His eyes were fixed on the small figure of the woman, his fists now pale from the squeeze.
"That's the right way, they should know nothing. So, who do they think they are, to form an opinion when they don't even understand what it is about?"

His words did not do any better to the woman's fear. Inside she hoped that she would come out of it safe and sound. Even if she did not believe that the king was violent, she did not trust him either.
"I am sorry, your majesty."

Hongjoong sighed and sent the woman out of his room. Why was he upset, he knew this would happen. He knew that this point would come, but he did not know when. Why now?
He had had to give up so much, risk so much to get this far, and it would all just disappear without leaving anything behind. He leaned back in his armchair and stared at the chandelier and they were reflecting on the individual little crystals.

Just a little further away, the shadow men and their new member were on their way to the black castle.
"If I had known that we would have to walk up so much mountain, I would not have suggested we leave immediately," Jongho complained. They had been walking up the hill for a while, but they seemed to be coming closer to the castle only slowly.
Mingi, who was running beside the youngest, put one hand on his back and pushed him forward.

"It will only go slower if you walk slower now. A little more and then we'll be there," he smiled at him. And it was just as he said, it didn't take them too long to get to the castle, but still, for the six of them, it felt like it took them hours.

But standing in front of the castle was different from seeing it from afar.
The black walls were massive and the glasses were darkened. They could not see what was waiting for them inside the castle, but why should that stop them? They had faced the nightmares of the world, the danger so often that the word "dangerous" had become a joke to them.

Without hesitation, Seonghwa went ahead to open the big doors, but was stopped by San. "Where are your manners, please?" he shook his head and stepped forward slowly. The others rolled their eyes when they saw him knocking on the doors.
"Anyone home?" he asked, leaning his ear against the door.

"Do you honestly think anyone would answer? The only thing that will be in there are disgusting creatures," Mingi commented and turned away. But to their surprise, the door actually opened, only there was no one on the other side to open it. At least nobody visible. San was surprised too, because he only wanted to tease the others.

"Um,... I'll let you go first," he grinned nervously and pointed with his arms into the lock. The others didn't answer at all and just walked past him. Yeosang was the last before San to enter the castle. He stopped and grabbed San's wrist, unintentionally feeling his pulse.

"You're not afraid, are you?" he asked him without changing his facial expression a bit and looked over his shoulder.
"Not to face the creatures, but I really don't want to mess with ghosts," he answered honestly.

Yeosang pulled up the corner of his mouth.
"Who said they're ghosts?"

San his eyes widened and Yeosang could feel his pulse rising again.
"It's just a joke, I have no idea what's in there myself. But there is no need to be afraid, after all we're together," he laughed.
San put his free hand on his heart and took a few deep breaths in and out.
"This is really the wrong time for jokes," he sulked and just walked over the threshold.
The others were already waiting for the two of them, who were now coming towards them.
