hongjoong was sleeping peacefully, and he had almost forgotten that he was in class. that was, until the bell had rung indicating that class was now over. hongjoong groaned in annoyance, barely lifting his head up only to see the teachers gaze focused on him.
he tried to ignore it, standing up and grabbing his back before trying to leave class like the others. but she stopped him, "kim hongjoong? stay after class we need to have a talk." hongjoong closed his eyes for a second, realizing he was now in deep trouble. opening his eyes again, he turned on his heel and walked towards the teachers desk.
he fiddled with the hems of his sleeves as he waited for her to speak. the silence in the room giving him more and more anxiety, and she still wasn't talking. she seemed to be going over some kind of paper work but hongjoong didn't know what it was.
"i hope you know that falling asleep in my class didn't go unnoticed mr. kim." she finally says, hongjoong clearing his throat. "sorry about that, i was a little sle-"
"my class isn't a place for you to catch up on sleep, and besides, what's your grade in my class?" hongjoong's gaze never met hers, he was too afraid and avoided looking at her at all costs. "detention."
"w-what?" hongjoong looked up, not knowing if he understood her correctly. "detention, after school, for sleeping in my class and failing it."
hongjoong couldn't speak, he only nodded and took the detention slip that she had given him. he left her class without a word, only feeling a sudden sickness reach him.
"hongjoong, is it?" a voice spoke, hongjoong turned to see who the voice belonged to and was surprised when it wasn't someone he usually talked to. "oh, uh, yeah."
he continued walking hoping that was all he had to say, but the person started walking beside him. why was park seonghwa trying to speak to someone like him?
"i couldn't help but overhear your conversation when i was passing by.. are you failing her class and falling asleep all the time?"
hongjoong stayed silent for a moment, still not being able to put the pieces together as to why seonghwa was here. "are you trying to make fun of me, or pity me?" hongjoong asks, in which seonghwa shook his head. "neither."
hongjoong stopped in his tracks, turning back to look at seonghwa. "are you sure about that?" seonghwa nodded, humming softly after. he took a step closer to hongjoong and slung an arm around him, hongjoong immediately tensing up at the sudden touch. "what if i told you i could tutor you and help you pass?"
hongjoong's eyes widen, "are you crazy? i can't even pay attention in class what makes you think if you waste your time on me it would be any better than that." seonghwa shrugs, "i have faith in myself, that i can help you pass."
hongjoong sighs, removing seonghwa's arm off of him. "listen, i appreciate you trying. but what you're doing right now is pointless, please leave me alone, it was better when we didn't talk to one another." and with that, hongjoong walked off, leaving seonghwa behind.
part of him felt bad that he turned seonghwa down, but part of him knew that it was the right thing to do. it wasn't worth it to help hongjoong, so why was seonghwa even talking to him at all? he wish he knew, so he could stop overthinking about it.
