it was after school the next day when hongjoong had his detention. he was supposed to show up the day before, but apparently something came up and it was moved to today. he wasn't complaining though because he got to chat with yunho about seonghwa.

he walked into the small classroom that still had the smell of pencil shavings and textbook pages, bowing to the teacher as he did so, and took a seat. she soon called everyone's names, to which hongjoong replied, "present."

there was only one assignment they had to do, and because hongjoong didn't want to get yelled at for not finishing it he decided he would do it. it was only a word search and reading is all, easy for him actually because he liked doing both.

the room was really silent for a while, there were only 5 students in total in detention and they were all busy doing something. hongjoong had finished his work early and was starting to get bored, that was until the door had opened. another student had joined them and made hongjoong freeze up. what is he doing here? he thought.

"you're late mr. park, have a seat next to hongjoong." hongjoong's eyes widen after those words were said, he looked up only to see seonghwa walking towards him. hongjoong being hongjoong, grabbed his binder and held it up to hide his face. he hadn't decided what he wanted to do yet and he didn't want seonghwa asking him again either so he would just ignore him.

"who are you hiding from?" a voice whispered, hongjoong put down his binder and saw that it was seonghwa who had spoken. "no one," he said a little too loud, the teacher gave him a look.

you were supposed to ignore him, hongjoong thought to himself once more.

"but, what are you doing here? you get good grades i wouldn't expect you to be in detention." seonghwa smiled softly, grabbing a pencil from his bag before setting it on the floor. "smart students can be bad too." seonghwa winked, hongjoong knew it was a joke but for some reason it made him blush. snap out of it hongjoong, just ignore him from now on.

that's when he realized, "are you calling me dumb?" he whispered back. "no of course not, you're smart, you just don't use your brain during class." hongjoong pouted, turning away from seonghwa as to try and ignore him for real this time; but, hongjoong grew curious.

"what did you do?" seonghwa looked up from his paper, realizing what was being asked. "oh, i asked to get detention." hongjoong raised his eyebrows, "you what? are you sure you're smart?" seonghwa chuckled silently, "yes, i only asked for detention so i could talk to you more."

"stupid."

"what? how?"

"stupid, don't talk to me."

"i can if i want."

"well, i don't want to talk to you."

"are you sure about that?"

"one more word from either of you and you both get lunch detention." the teacher spoke up, as their bickering was starting to get too distracting for other students.

"yes ma'am." they both said in unison.

hongjoong huffed in annoyance and rested his head against his palm. the room fell silent, and seonghwa no longer tried to speak to him. he sort of wished seonghwa continued talking to him, but his instincts told him to push him away. he was sad to admit that he had done just that, when detention was over seonghwa was the first to leave, he didn't say another word to hongjoong and not even a goodbye.

hongjoong frowned, wondering why his heart was now aching. "stupid, he's stupid..." hongjoong repeated, as he left the class on his own. he wondered why he suddenly wanted seonghwa to speak to him, and he hated himself for wanting something like that. should he really take on seonghwa's offer?

he knew that seonghwa would probably start to ignore him starting tomorrow, and he would have to get used to that. but even if that was normal for him he should still try, right? he needed to give him another answer.
