I couldn't believe what the doctor just said. I was poisoned. "Rise?!" He yells pulling me out of my thoughts. "As I was saying, I want you take this at every meal for the next month. The police will be here soon, with a few conditions." And with that he gives me the bottle of pills and leaves the room.
Within the next 20 minutes, the police were asking a bunch of questions. "Alright Rise. I want you to keep this button on you at all times. There are only 3 conditions for when you can press this button."
I look over at dad and he grabs my hand again. "Number 1. The drugs are acting up and hurting you. Number 2. If you are in danger this button will send your location to us and your family. And last-" He paused.
He looked over at dad making me confused. "Tell him." Dad says and the officer nods.
"That jackass of a boyfriend. Tristan was it? He has escaped. We have a cop stationed outside of your house in case he comes after you. The last condition is if you see him. Once this button is pressed, there will be at least one squad car on their way to your location."
This is a lot scarier than I thought it would be. Tristan escaped and I have to be with people at all times. "Baby don't cry!" Dad says and I touch my cheek to realize I had been crying. The cop speaks up again.
"We won't let anything hurt you. We have extra cars down by the area you go to school as well. Nothing and I mean nothing will happen without us knowing about it." I nod.
"Alright why don't you guys head home. Have a good night and kid please keep calm." He says in a comforting voice.
The ride home was uncomfortably quiet. I could tell dad was trying to think through the situation and to be honest, so was I. This was scary and we needed to be ready for anything.
When we get home, all the boys are home and we all sit down in the living room to share the news. All of them were looking at us expectantly.
"Today, I took Rise to the doctor. You all know what happened with 'he who shall not be named'?" They all nod.
"Well he was not feeling good this morning. So I took him to the doctor and they told us he was drugged and going through withdrawal."
"That would be too fast though!" Gabe stated.
"That's what I thought. So I took him to another doctor. He was in fact drugged, but he was also poisoned."
"What?! Wait... why would he be poisoned if the man wanted to... you know, again." I sigh.
"He did it because I was arguing with him. The poison was a warning." I say bluntly. Chris comes over and hugs me.
"I feel so bad for being mean." He said and I tightened my grip around him. "It's in the past. All is forgiven." And we say there for a minute before everyone else joined in.
"Alright! You boys need to make sure that Rise remembers to take his pills at lunch time. He takes them at every meal." Dad says and there is a chorus of nods and yes's.
By school the next day, I was beyond nervous. I stepped out of the house early as I was planning to get my breakfast at the cafe. Outside, were 2 squad cars.
That's weird. I thought he said one. I was about to start walking when the sirens came on then off again. I turned around confused.
"Sir! This black car behind us is your ride. We have been given strict orders not to let you walk by yourself so my son has agreed to drive you around. He goes to your school I believe."
I nod and head towards the car, not having the energy to argue about not having freedom. When I get close enough, the kid gets out and I freeze. Carson?!
Carson was one of the most sarcastic and rude people you will ever meet. He is also slightly homophobic. He thinks gays are gross and he will say so too, but he won't hit you for it.
"Hey Carson." I say quietly.
"Hey. I'm only doing this because my mom asked me to. She says you're a good kid. Ugh I can't believe that she doesn't care you're a fag." He rolls his eyes.
"Just get in the car and I'll take you to where ever you were headed." I nod and get in the backseat while telling him where I was headed.
We pull into the cafe parking lot and I almost immediately jump out of the car.
Walking inside, the cashiers face lights up. "RiRi! Do you want your regular? Chocolate chip muffin and a medium mocha double double?"
"Actually Cammy can we double that order today?" I ask and she nods.
Camille makes the coffees and hands me them along with the muffins.
"Thank you! Come on Carson let's sit down." He hesitated before following me to a table.
I slide one muffin and a coffee over to him and he looks surprised. "You didn't need to buy me that you know." He says and I shrug.
"It isn't very fair if I am the only one with something to eat." I say smiling before pulling out my pills and reading the label.
"What are those for?" He asks and I laugh darkly. "I was raped by a teacher and because I was arguing with him, he poisoned me."
"You were raped?" He asks his tone seeming angry all of a sudden.
"Yah I thought that was on the news..."
"I don't watch the news. But I'm surprised there are no rumours going around yet." I freeze. No rumours? Not possible.
I take my pills and eat my food with Carson soon eating as well.
By the time we get to school. Grayson is waiting by the doors for me. "Hey beautiful how are you?" He asks and I look back at Carson who I can tell is trying not to say anything. "I'm doing good. Thanks baby." And with that we walk inside.
