Mount Pomais, West Virginia

As they started walking down the hallway of the second floor, Joseph began talking again. Our parents had a total of 11 children however mom lost two of us at birth leaving her with 6 boys and 3 girls in all. This house has 15 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms in all. There are 2 bedrooms downstairs in the back of the house for the cook and maid, with a shared bathroom. He stopped walking and turned to face everyone. This house has 6 garages in all. Our father only had one car but the others were built for us by us. He told us if we wanted a car of our own we had to get a job and pay for all the building supplies and then pay for our own car. We did this and it taught us a great many things about the upkeep on our vehicles after that.

Theres an attic upstairs that Ill take you to after youve seen all the rooms on this floor. It holds the documents I was telling you about earlier Miss Isaacs. It also holds all of our moms personal possessions after she died. We didnt have the heart to remove any of her things when she passed away so we all moved them to the attic until a later time. The attic also holds many antiques. James room was in the attic but it was sectioned off from the rest of the things up there when he moved in. Our father didnt want him using our own rooms. During the holidays our parents would hold parties and he wanted our rooms left untouched in case we ended up staying late. This way, if we had our own family with us, our wives or husbands and children, thered always be a room for us to spend the night in.

He proceeded to start opening doors to the rooms as he walked down the hallway and his sister and brothers helped out. These were our rooms. Greta and the others stepped forward and walked into every bedroom. They were all the same; a sitting room with a fireplace and a bedroom off to the side. A small built in bookcase for their personal collection of books. All of the siblings would explain what the room once looked like and who it belonged to. As you can see, theres no carpet in any of the rooms. Everywhere you look is hardwood floors. Theres never been any carpet in this house. The house is so old that we didnt want to damage the floors.

Joseph and his family were standing by a room at the end of the hall and Jackie took notice that their hosts demeanor had changed.

Are you alright? she asked.

He could only say, No maam Im sorry to say Im not, tears spilling from his eyes.

His sister, Ivory spoke in a soft voice. This is our parents room. Alexander opened the door and stepped into the room. Jackie was the first to walk into the room and saw Alexander walking over to a built in bookcase. He moved the bookcase away from the wall and a secret panel opened; this one leading upstairs.

Alexander spoke softly, This is where my brothers nightmare begins. This is where all of our nightmares take place.

Where does the staircase go? Greta asked.

It leads to the attic. This one was discovered by accident one day. Well explain it all later though. Alexander closed the panel shut again and secured the bookcase back in place. Walking back out of the bedroom, he encouraged them to follow him back into the hall again.

After the bedroom door was closed again, Ivory said Lets go to another set of stairs just down the hall from here and well take those to the attic instead.

Joseph was led by his sister again while Alexander took the lead this time, taking everyone to the staircase and taking everyone to the upstairs attic. Mrs. McCain brought up the rear of the group and talking in whispers to both Ivory and Joseph now.

The attic door was opened and everyone stepped inside. One of the windows was opened to allow fresh air in and a light bulb came on near the entrance to the door.
