"You sure this looks good? I want to make a good impression on your Mom when I meet her. Even if I don't speak Spanish that well." Steven said to his girlfriend Luz Noceda as the two of them were looking at different outfits.
Due to a recent dimensional hiccup that somehow gave Beach City access to the boiling isles and gave Luz easy access to her home, Steven had been hanging out with her after meeting her after the hiccup happened and the two gradually became close to where they fell in love and began dating.
And while Amity and Eda were happy for Luz, Connie wasn't happy about Steven being able to bounce back so quickly after their breakup. But Amity normally kept her in check and away from any chance she had to possibly ruin things for the couple.
"Don't worry, Steven. My Mom will love you. I kinda had to tell her about you at some point. How's this look? I think the dark red would look good on you with the right pair of pants." She said as Steven chuckled.
"You sound like Pearl when she's trying to help me pick out an outfit." He replied.
"You mean your Mom? I know she isn't your actual Mom but she certainly acts like she is. *laughs* You are her baby after all." Luz replied with a laugh as Steven rolled his eyes. When Luz met the Gems and Steven told them he was dating her, Pearl went into complete "Embarrassing Mom Mode", saying things like "No one is good enough for my baby unless I say they are". Granted, she was joking but it was still embarrassing for Steven...
"Yeah. Pearl has always been that mother to me. I grew up without my real one, so....ah forget it." Steven said until Luz hugged him.
"No. If you've got something to say, then let it out." She said as Steven sighed.
"You know the story. How I'm here. What happened to my Mom and who she really was. I told you, remember? What else is there to say?" He asked.
"Yeah. You told me all that. But I remember when you told me, I asked you a question that you never answered." Luz replied.
"What was it?" Steven asked as Luz put her hands on his face.
"How do you feel about it? When I asked you, you always seemed quick to dodge the question or change the subject." She said as Steven sighed again.
"I won't push this further for now because we have to go see my Mom. But don't think we're done with this. If we're going to make this work, we have to be upfront and honest with each other, Steven." Luz said, planting a quick peck on Steven's lips as the hybrid smiled. He knew Luz was only doing this out of love.
And maybe...just maybe...he could feel safe enough to let her in.
