Sirius Black had only good intentions when he set out to bring Pettigrew to justice.

He walked into the battle filled with pride, anger and a mission to avenge his fallen friends. He was dragged away a wrongly accused man, filled with grief, regret and falsely branded for life. Once again, Peter Pettigrew had dodged his fate.

"Harry has to stay with the Dursley's now that Sirius is locked away, that much is clear. But what of the girl? She can't just be tossed aside," Minerva argued. "And not to mention, Harry will grow up innocently. She will remember the entire ordeal - she needs a caring home!" Her voice cracked with sadness for the youngling in front of her who had finally fallen to sleep.

Dumbledore sighed, Hagrid looking down empty of ideas and full of sorrow. "It would seem that the girl's mother is still around." Albus reminded.

"The muggle? The muggle that gave her up to her father? I don't believe she's had any contact with Brandi or her father since she was born!" McGonnagal protested.

Dumbledore sighed. "It is an imperfect solution, but one that we must honour. Legally and morally, the girl belongs to her mother. Perhaps, young Brandi being raised by a muggle will keep her hidden from the horrors our world has already exposed her to. Keep her sheltered and safe."

"And when she begins coming into her powers?"

"Then we can assess at a later date. For all we know, she may not ever realise or grow into her magic. Until she does, she must be cared for and safe. We can only supervise from afar and keep our involvement loose."

Hagrid and McGonnagal shared a look of disdain. They knew the girl's mother was a piece of work and gave her up once - who was to say it wouldn't happen again? Not to mention her distaste for magic.

"Let me care for the girl. I'll take her myself!" Minerva cried, still adamant to save Brandi from the life her mother would give her.

Dumbledore raised a hand in silence. "My decision is final. It is not our place to interfere. Unless Brandi is abandoned again, we have no place to assume. We will monitor and make sure she remains safe. Otherwise, our only other job is to drop her home."

And so it was final that Brandi would return to her mother, the woman that gave her up initially, not wanting anything to do with a magical life.
