Nancy's POV

It was my second day of school. I was still getting adjusted to everything, but I was doing okay. Like I said before, school honestly wasn't that bad.

I opened my locker with ease, I mastered the lock surprisingly quickly. I grabbed the appropriate school supplies while I talked to Bertram. Even though it has only been two days, this had become my permanent morning routine. It was nice having something constant and consistent in my life. Especially since my mind was the exact opposite of consistent right now.

Bertram, aka the source of one of my
consistencies, suddenly started talking. "I heard June got a dog, is that true?"
"Yeah, it is true. I was there when her mom gave him to her," I said. "Benny even helped her mom pick out the dog."
Bertram chuckled. "Of course he did."
"Something tells me you're aren't surprised?" I asked.
"Were you?" He chuckled again.
"No," I said. "I wasn't surprised at all."
"Exactly, nobody is or would be," Bertram replied. "That's just how Benny and June are. They are painfully adorable."
"I couldn't disagree with that if I tried. I swear the two of them are soulmates. Do you think it is possible to meet your soulmate at this age? Do you believe in soulmates in the first place?" I overloaded Bertram with two deep questions.
"Now that's a pretty serious subject Nance," he said. The words that came out of his mouth would lead one to think otherwise, but he was joking. His facial expression and tone of voice made that very apparent.
"I know," I giggled. "But do you?"
"It's hard to say. I go back and forth with it. It doesn't seem impossible, but at the same time, it feels like a cliche in a fairytale. You know what I mean?" Bertram's answer was not what I was expecting. Frankly, I don't know what I was expecting, but that certainly wasn't it.
"I get what you mean," I said.
"Do you believe in soulmates?" Bertram turned the tables against me. Now that was something I expected from him.
"Honestly, I don't know," I shrugged. Sadly, that was the end of our conversation. It got cut short because we had to go to math class.

We walked into math class and immediately took our seats next to Benny and June. We had about five minutes before class officially started. I decided to ask my burning question. "Hey, do you believe in soulmates?"
June sighed. "That is too deep of a question for 8 o'clock in the morning."
"Really?" My tone had never been that condescending before.
"Yes really," her tone was just as condescending as mine, "But to answer your question, I do to an extent. I don't think it is like romance movies or anything, but I think everyone has a person they are most compatible with. Someone who is like their best friend and they get along with better than anyone else in the world."
"I agree," Benny chimed in, "Everyone has someone who is perfect for them. I guess you could say that it is a soulmate."
"So I guess it isn't too early for that question?" I laughed.
"Whatever," June rolled her eyes. Excluding her attitude, her answer was really interesting. June didn't strike me as the type to believe in soulmates. So the fact that she did to some degree was fascinating. Benny believing in soulmates wasn't fascinating at all. It fit with his kind personality. That's not saying that anyone who doesn't believe in soulmates isn't kind though. There are other aspects of Benny's personality that make the soulmate belief less shocking.

I don't know why I started this inquisition about soulmates. Gosh, I don't understand my own opinion on the subject. However, something told me I had a reason for doing this. Something in my subconscious had this desire. Maybe I was questioning if my cousin had met her soulmate, or maybe I was questioning if I had started developing feelings for mine.

Author's Note: Chapter 7!! I don't know why I love this chapter so much, but I do. Maybe I just like talking about soulmates lol 😂
