Nancy's POV
I was happy to see June feeling better about everything. I can't even imagine what it must be like for her right now. I can't imagine going through something like that. It must be so hard. June is truly one of the strongest people I know.
Everyone walked home from the sandlot in their usual groups and pairs. I, to no one's surprise, walked alongside Bertram.
"Hey Nance," he said.
"Yeah?" I looked up at him.
"How are you doing right now? How are you doing with everything going on?" He asked.
"I'm okay for the most part. It doesn't affect me as much as it affects June. I'm just sad that she has to go through this. I'm more sad for her than anything else," I answered.
"Yeah it sucks for June, but I'm glad you're doing okay. I wanted to check in with you too," he said.
I smiled and probably blushed too. "Well thank you, I appreciate that."
"Of course," he said.
"Hey can I ask you something?" I asked. Bertram nodded. "Yeah."
"I was hoping that maybe you would come to the hospital with June, Benny, and I. I know June would appreciate it and I definitely would too. I think it would be nice to have another friend with us. We need all the positivity we can get," I explained. "So...do you think you can come with us?"
"Of course I can," he said with no hesitation.
"Ok great! Thank you!" I beamed.
"No problem, that's what I am here for," he smiled. The conversation became a lot more happy after that. We didn't talk about June's trauma or depressing hospital visits.
Like I predicted, June really appreciated Bertram coming with us. She did tease me a lot about it, but she truly appreciated it. We were going to the hospital tomorrow. I don't know what the experience was going to be like. I had so many questions lingering in the back of my mind. Unfortunately, none of them would be answered until tomorrow.
Author's Note: Chapter 14!! How is this chapter SHORTER than the last one?? I tried to make this one as long as I possibly could too!! I'm lowkey pissed lol. Anyways, I'm really sorry for the short chapters!! I promise the next one will be longer!! Thank you for having patience and dealing with this lol 😂
