The remainder of the week went by slowly for Sage. It felt as though she were experiencing a slow death. Her will to live was diminishing with each day.

She was seated on the steps with Ashley, Letoya, and Trina at school for break time.

She and Trisha made up, and Ashley wasn't happy.

"What about a girl's night in?" Trisha asked. Letoya wanted them to go to a club for her birthday which was the following Saturday.

"That's something we do on a regular," Letoya said, "I want to turn up."

"How will we get into a club?" Sage asked in a tiny voice.

"Fake IDs sis, don't doubt me," Letoya spoke cheerfully, "Plus I think you need to," she pointed at Sage.

Sage shrugged, "Yeah sure," she said, thinking about the reason.

"I don't like the idea," Ashley piped up.

Letoya rolled her eyes, "You ain't invited anyway," she spat.

"Whatever," Ashley retorted.

Trisha giggled.

"I don't find anything funny," Ashley glared at Trisha.

"Don't," Trisha said with a straight face.

"Or what? You'll slap me again?" Ashley asked.

"Can y'all stop?" Sage shouted then looked at Trisha, "Why don't you like her? Y'all were friends before me, what changed?"

Nobody spoke, that's when the bell rang, signifying the end of the break.

Sage stood up and dusted the back of her pants off, "You'll find me in class," she announced before walking off.

...

"She's all talk, ain't no way I'm going to meet her father," Junior said to JP.

They were on their way to meet up with a dealer, for a job tonight. Junior was the one driving.

"You might be a married man by next month," JP joked.

Junior side-eyed him making JP laugh out loud.

"Shit, she comes back and finished whatever you had going in with your little girl," JP reasoned.

"I agreed to that to not hurt Sage," Junior said.

"Nigga, that's exactly what you did," JP said, leaning back in the passenger chair.

"I'll fix it," Junior said.

He wanted to play his cards right. Go along with Trina until he finds a way to rid her. He loved Sage and it killed him that he broke the promises he gave to her.

He hated Trina with a passion but didn't want to risk Sage getting killed.

Junior's phone started ringing and he answered.

"Hey baby," Trina's voice could be heard through the loudspeaker causing JP to smack his lips.

"Talk," Junior said.

"I wanted to let you know that I just booked tickets for Wednesday morning, that's in five-"

"I ain't going," Junior interrupted her with irritation laced in his voice.

He parked before a huge building that looked run down and laid his head back on his seat.

"Don't make it difficult baby, you're starting off on the wrong foot with my daddy," she giggled.
