The Quarry

I opened my eyes. I was still on the floor. I slowly slid my blanket down and got up. I walked downstairs to my kitchen. I grabbed a poptart and began to eat it. I made a face of disgust as I bit into it, realizing my mother had bought the strawberry flavor. I walked over to the trash and chucked it. I turned around to see Stanley with messy bed-head.

"What a waste." Stan said. "You still going to the quarry with us?" "Mhm" I nodded. "Alright then get ready."

I walked back upstairs to my room. I found a outfit to wear and grabbed a pair of brown converses. I walked out while trying to slide my foot into the shoe.

I ran outside, catching up to Stan. We rode our bikes to the quarry. The wind breezed through my H/L hair. Once we arrived, I threw my bike onto the dirt path.

The others were scattered around getting out of there clothes. They had turned there heads, probably not expecting to see me. I watched as Eddie immediately turned red. He always did whenever we were here together.

"I invited Y/n if that's okay with you guys." Stan explained "nuh-nuh-no, it-its fine." Bill nodded. I held my arm into my sweaty palm. I was nervous. I uncomfortably took my clothes off slowly. "did your tits get bigger?" Richie smiled. Everyone turned and gave him a dirty look. "Beep Beep, Richie." Eddie scoffed. "Keep staring at my sister and you're dead, Trashmouth." Stans tone changed.

normally I'd be used to Richies dirty jokes, and going to the quarry with the losers but it was different after we drifted apart. Its feels as if i didn't know them.

I walked over to the ledge were everyone else stood. I noticed someone new standing beside me. Richie gagged up saliva and spit into the quarry.

"Oh shit, I forgot you guys used to do that." I gasped. They each went one by one. Richie kept making remarks each time. It was my turn. I spit into the green water. I didn't beat Richie though. I turned to Eddie once it was his turn. He didn't even make it in the water. What a weak attempt. "Dude, that was terrible. I win!" Richie claimed. "What? Did you see that loogie?" Eddie asked, in disbelief.

"Mine went the furthest!" Richie said expanding his arm outwards. "Mass. It's always been mass." Eddie said. "What?! What the hell is 'mass?" Richie asked laughing.

I smiled at them. I missed seeing them fight all the time. I used to be so annoyed by it but now that I've been so long without it I realized how much I loved hearing them drive eachother crazy. It was almost comforting.

They continued arguing about wether the game was about mass or distance. Bill interrupted them both. "Alright, who's going first?" We looked down. "I will!" A feminine voice shouted from behind us. It was Beverly Marsh. Was she new to the group too?

"Sissys" she shook her head running up to the edge, jumping in. We all watched in awe as the water splashed.

"Oh, holy shit! We just got shown up by a girl!" Richie said. "Do we have to do that now?" Stan's voice cracked. "Yes." Eddie replied. "Come on!" Beverly called. "Shit."

They all jumped in. The only ones left were me and Eddie. "Stop making out and jump already!" Richie called. Richie would always try to pair us together. You wanna go first?" I laughed a little, sounding nervous. "Yeah, I guess I will." He hesitated but still jumped. Finally, i jumped in.

"I'll go set up the towels." Stan said, while walking away to the rocked we always sat at. "Lets play chicken!" Richie shouted, getting on ben's shoulders. Beverly was quick to team with Bill. Leaving me and Eddie together.

"Hey Eds, dont be shy, get in between
Y/n's legs!" Richie winked. "Ignore him." Eddie whispered. I giggled, climbing onto his shoulders.

It was me VS Beverly. Richie watched as the both of us struggled to push the other off. It ended with me and Eddie winning, having to beat Richie next.

Richie was about to win until Eddie caught me and made sure I didn't fall. I ended up pushing Richie off Ben's shoulders. "WE WON!" I exclaimed raising my arms in the air. "YEAH!" Eddie laughed.

This is probably the most happiest I've been in a while.

Later, I looked over to see Stan and Eddie splashing eachother. I snuck up behind Stan. Eddie watched as I put my index finger to my lips with a grin on my face. He smiled. I jumped up shoving his head down into the water, unexpectedly. He tried fighting back. Eddie swam over to help. We both laughed watching him struggle to get out of our grip. We eventually let go. "WHAT THE HELL, ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME?" Stan coughed up laughs. "Yes." I chuckled.

Richie and Ben swam over to us. "Woah, what the fuck was that?" Richie screamed. "What's what?" I asked. He turned in circles looking down at the water. "Something just touched my leg!" Richie kept going under water trying to see what. "It's a turtle." Bill said. "Wait what?" I asked. I went under water to see. I touched it's shell lightly.

Then a flash of something appeared. Betty. She was covered in dried blood and dirt. She looked the same as she did last night. I gasped. I then realized I was under water and quickly swam back up, coughing. "You alright?" Beverly asked. "Yeah, I'm good." I lied.

"It's getting cold, im going on the rocks." Stan told us. "I guess I'll go too." I said

The others followed.

We all sat down doing whatever. Richie began to blast rock music, I took one of the comic books from Richie bags, and Beverly set up a towel to tan on. I looked up to see why it was so quiet, only to see everyone staring at Beverly. I rolled my eyes smiling, looking over to Eddie who was the only one looking at me. He quickly looked away, as did everyone else when Beverly turned to them.

Richie started digging through Ben's stuff. "News flash, Ben! Schools out for summa'." Richie reassured Ben, making a newsman impression with a fake microphone in his fist. "Oh that? That's not school stuff." Ben replied. Richie pulled out a postcard. "Who sent you this?" He smiled trying to read it, however Ben snatched it back. "No one." Ben answered irritated.

"What's up with the history project?" "Oh well, when I first moved here I didn't really have anyone to hang out with. So I just started spending time in the library." Ben explained. I felt a little bad for him. He seems really nice. "You went to the library? On purpose?" Richie asked. "Oooh, I wanna see." Beverly walked over.

They guys passed around folders full of news articles. Eddie shared the one he had with me. "What's the black spot?" Stan looked over reading the article too. "The black spot was a nightclub that was burnt down years ago by that racist cult." Eddie explained to him. "The what?" "Don't you watch Geraldo?" He asked, earning a head shake.

I looked over at Beverly. "Yuh-yuh-your hair i-i ." Bill struggled but kept a smile. "Your hair is beautiful beverly." Ben finished for him. "Oh! Right, thanks." She smiled at him fixing her hair.

There was an awkward silence for a second. I looked back down at the papers. "Here, pass it." I heard Richie say. "Why's it all murders and missing kids?" Richie asked opening up the folder. "Derrys not like any town I've ever been in before." Ben said, getting my attention again. "They did a study once. It turns out people die or disappear six times the national average." "You read that?" Beverly asked. "That's just grownups. Kids are worse. Way, way worse." Goosebumps grew along my legs. "I've got more stuff, if you wanna see it." Ben offered.
