Y/n's POV:
I finally make it to work, I quickly park my car in the parking lot before running to the building. I stand outside for a second as I stare at the doors, feeling the cool breeze on my cheeks. I take a deep breath.
'Here's hoping the Cap doesn't kill me.'
I walk into the station past the front desk, taking in one last breath as I enter the DPD Central Station. As I walk in I catch someone's attention as he turns his chair towards me.
"Well look who finally decided to show up, morning Detective." One of my good friends and co-worker greeted jokingly.
"Hardy har. Well morning to you too Chris. Sorry, 'Officer Miller'. Nice to know someone missed my presence." I laugh.
"Of course, the stations pretty boring without you here. Well, at least I'm bored. 'You know who' is not great company." We both look over to the desk across from Chris'.
"HA! I bet. Thank you Chris, you just made my day."
"You're very welcome." He smiles.
"Oh! Did the Captain notice I was late?" I ask, he just shakes his head.
"No, he hasn't mentioned anything about it. I honestly think he thinks you've been here this entire time."
"Phew, I'm safe." I say with a sigh of relief making Chris chuckle. I then frown.
"Is uhh, has my partner come in today?" I question as I look at mine and my partners joined desks. Chris looks down shaking his head.
"Yeah... that's... that's the answer I was expecting..."
"Sorry Y/n..." Was all he said.
"No no. Don't be sorry. It's not your fault, it's not anybody's fault. We just need to figure things out is all." I assure, he nods.
"Well, I better get to work before the Captain suspects something. But first! COFFEE!" I jump enthusiastically. Chris only shakes his head laughing.
"You have fun with that Y/n. Oh by the way, 'you know who' is I the Break Room." Chris warns. I let out an exasperated sigh.
"UuuuUHHHHHGGG! Fantastic. Welp, thanks for the heads up. Catch you later Chris."
"Likewise Y/n." He then turns back to his computer.
I make my way to my desk dropping my purse of there before heading to the Break Room.
"Ahhhh, I. Need. Coffee." I say to myself, but I scowl seeing 'you know who' in the Break Room.
Gavin Reed.
I clench my jaw before heading straight for the coffee machine, I can feel his eye burning in the back of my skull.
He's gonna do it, say something to annoy my, anger me, or upset me. Like he does with everyone else here.
"No." I say not looking in his direction as I made my coffee.
"I haven't said anything yet, I didn't even get to open my mouth."
"You didn't have to as your presence alone is enough to annoy me."
"HA! I love how easy this will be then." I could just hear the smugness in his voice.
"Don't even bother Reed, I am not in the mood for this ."
"Even better."
"Reed" I warn
"What? I just wanna ask a question, like... oh I don't know... where the Lieutenant might be? You know, YOUR partner." I clench my fists.
"Oh and don't think I haven't noticed you were late this morning. Now that I think about it, you've been coming to work later and later everyday. It it because of him? You better watch yourself Y/n, you hang around the old man to long you'll become a sad, pathetic mistake of a human being. Just. Like. Him." That instantly makes me snap. I can feel his presence behind me so I slam my coffee cup on the table and instantly turn around to face him, grabbing his collar in the process.
"You do NOT speak about him like that!" I shout. I see the slight fear in his eyes, I can tell he's trying to hide it.
"Y/N! In my office!" The Captain yells. I freeze in place and Gavins face instantly turns into an evil grin. I let him go.
"Better get a move on then, you don't want to keep the Captain waiting." Gavin spat. I growl glaring at him.
"Bitch." I hear him mutter as he walks back to his desk.
I suck in a breath through gritted teeth, trying to push back my rage as I head to The Captains office.
I walk up the short set of stairs as I open his glass door.
"Captain Fowler? You wanted to see me?" He looks up from his computer as I step into the room.
"Yes, just sit down. I need to discuss some things with you quickly." He gestures to one of the two chairs in front of him. I sit down preparing for the worst.
"We're getting more and more cases everyday, we're starting to get overwhelmed. You'll be having to do more work than usual." I sigh in relief.
'PHEW! For a second there I thought he was going to yell at me for being HOURS late.'
"Oh, that's alrigh-"
"AND, don't think I didn't notice you weren't here this morning." He interrupted.
'Dammit'
"Sorry Sir. I woke up late. It won't happen again." I say quickly.
"It's fine. I'm letting it slide since you finished all your files yesterday. Your partner on the other hand is a different story."
"I know, I'm trying to help him. To get him here early. To-"
"YOU shouldn't have to do that. As a Police Lieutenant he should be ahead of the game, doing more work than you!" He rubs his eyes.
"We're trying to figure something out, just get today's files done."
"Yes Captain."
"Alright, get to it." I nod before getting up and heading to the door.
"Wait a minute, one more thing." He says as I turn back to him.
"Cool it with Gavin, I don't want you beating his ass then him to come crying to me about it." I have to hold in a grin as he said that.
"Sorry Jeffery, but no promises there." Was all I said, he just sighs before shaking his head, chuckling slightly.
"Alright alright, get out of my office." He waves me off.
I leave his office quickly going back to the Break Room to actually get my coffee this time before heading to my desk.
As I approach my desk I slow down, coming to a stop as I look at my name tag.
'DET. Y/N/N'
I smile before shifting my gaze to my partners name tag.
'LT. ANDERSON'
"Hank...."
I finally sit at my desk, taking a sip of my coffee before opening the new files I have for the day.
'Oh boy.... here we go.'
