*Beep beep beep beep*
I sit up in my bed and rubbed my eyes.
Today is Friday. Valentines day. The Day of Single People as I like to call it.
I got ready for a probably long and boring day at school. Upon arrivingl, I saw all the flowers that were sold sitting in the office.
That's a lot of flowers... I thought to myself, Wonder how many have my name on them... I laughed a little, None of them that's how many.
Every class period felt like it was dragging by slower than normal today. Everyone (everyone being mostly my fellow freshmen) was wondering when we were getting the flowers. We were all anxious to see if we actually got any, if we were actually "loved" by someone. It almost seemed silly really, I mean why so much worry over flowers?
They told us during the announcements second hour that the flowers would be handed out during 5th hour. It seemed like everyone sighed and was slightly annoyed we had to wait until the end of the day.
When 5th hour did finally come around we were all on the edge of our seats. No one was focusing on geometry, we were all thinking about if we got flowers or not. Every minute seemed to take longer to tick by than Collins telling us a big announcement after using the word "soon".
There were only a few mintutes left of the day before a group of older students walked in with arms full of flowers. I couldn't help it, I got a little excited and let my heart rate pick up.
Names began being called. People got up and recieved their bunch of flowers. So far I hadn't been callled. More people went up, others went up twice. There was only a few left. I was getting really discouraged.
Everyone had been up to get flowers at least once but me. They called one last name and handed them the rest of the flowers.
Well ouch. I knew that would happen, but ouch.
I tried to burry my feelings inside of me until I got home. I hardly turned away from the door when one of the older students that handed out the flowers walked over to me.
"Caitlin?"
"Ye-yes?" I wasn't sure what the heck was going on.
"We've been told to send you to the office for something, I'm not exactly sure what it is though."
"Ok..." I got up and followed them out the door. They all walked with me to the office then went their seperate ways.
One of the secrateries was behind the desk. When she saw me she smiled and said,
"Are you Caitlin?"
"Yes? I've been told there's something waiting for me here in the office,"
"Yes, there most certainly is." She turned to grab something behind the desk that I couldn't see.
I couldn't help myself, I leaned forward just a bit to try to get a glipse and what she was reaching for.
She came around the other side of the desk and handed me a gorgeous bouquet of 6 pink flowers with just a little bit of a purple tint.
"They're from 'Someone Special' as I've been told to tell you.
Someone special?? Who could that be? Probably my mom. I thought to myself, That's probably why she was in the office the other day.
I left dumbfounded, not able to say anything. As I was walking back to class I read the little tag that was around the stems of the flowers. It said:
"Happy Valentines Day beautiful <3 ~Someone Special"
I also noticed there was a little key charm tied with the tag....
Who in the world sent me these?? And why did I need to be called down to the office to recieve them? It's obviously someone who knows me well enough to know about Collins.
On the ride home from school I thought of every possibility of who sent them to me. I didn't have a boyfriend so its not that, the message sounds a little strange to be from either of my parents, I don't think any of my friends even bought a flower for anyone... So who could it be?
When I got home I walked inside and walked straight over to my mom, not even bothering to put my backpack down first. I had the flowers out infront of me so she would see them right away.
"Hey Mom" I said casually.
"Hey sweetie. Oh look! You got your flowers today! Who are they from?" She had a strange little smirk on her face like she was either up to something or she was trying to be sarcastic.
"I'm not sure, the tag didn't say. Did you buy them?"
"Actually no, they're not from your dad and me," Mom. The grammar....
"Oh? Then who do you think they're from?"
"I have no idea!" The smirk got bigger after that breif moment of seriousness. Maybe that's not why she was at school the other day? "Could it have been a friend? Perhaps a special friend??"
What's with the word special today??
"Mom, you know I don't have a boyfriend and that I don't have any friends close enough to become my boyfriend. No one even likes me like that anyway." It's true, no one seems to like a nerd at my school... But I'm fine with it, I'll be a single pringle for as long as I have to.
"I didn't mean a boyfriend, or at least a real one..." She threw me another suppicous smirk over her shoulder as she turned around.
What.
My mother has never confused me more in my life. I gave up on asking her where they came from so I just turned and went to my room.
I set my backpack down and put the flowers in a vase on my night stand. I crawled onto my bed and sat there crosslegged, continuing to wonder about the flowers. I had absolutely no idea who bought them for me, as far as I knew I didn't even know the person. Could I have a secret admirer?
I laughed at myself. Me? Have a secret admirer?? That's funny.
I got out my phone and checked what Collins has been up to while I was at school. While twitter was loading I went to get some chocolate. It is Valentines day, boyfriend or no boyfriend, it's not Valentines day without chocolate.
I grabbed some chocolate off the counter and read some tweets as I walked back to my room. Collins's tweet made me stop walking. The last thing he had tweeted said:
" Happy Valentines Day beautiful <3 ~Someone Special"
I almost dropped my phone as I ran back to my room and grabbed the tag that was tied around my flowers.
"'Happy Valentines Day beautiful <3 ~Someone Special'"
Someone Special.
