Walking to her apartment in D.C., Harley took her keys out of her bag. She decided to take the stairs all the way up to the fifth floor, passing her neighbors along the way. She finally got to her apartment and unlocked the door.
"Hey, Ms. Q," the babysitter, Damien, greeted. "I invited Victor over so he could take me home."
"Sup, Ms. Q." Victor said, not looking away from the video game they were playing.
"Oh, and James is asleep in his room." Harley dropped her bag on the counter and searched for her wallet.
Harley took out two twenty dollar bills. "Here." She handed the money to Damien.
"No, I-I can't take this. My dad--"
"You should start making your own money, Damien." Harley folded Damien's hand over the money. "Go. Your dad's waiting for you."
Victor and Damien leave the apartment and Harley walked to her bedroom. Going to her room, she notices a shadowy figure in her baby's room.
Stepping in James' room, she heard the door close behind her. There stood Rumlow, holding James. "Hey," he said.
"How did you get here?" Harley asked. Rumlow gestured to the open window.
"I came to see my boy," Rumlow said.
"Well, you can't," Harley said, taking James out of his arms. "We're going out. I'm sure you can leave the same way you came," she said, walking out of James' room.
Harley heard Rumlow leave and she grabbed James' stroller. She exited her apartment and took the elevator out of the building. She started walking to the park in front of the Capitol Monument. She started walking with the stroller along the trail, watching two men running along the trail.
James started babbling and kicking his legs back and forth. Harley walked to the front of the stroller to check on him. "You okay, huh?" James wrapped his hand around Harley's finger and tried to eat it. "Oh, you're hungry." Harley reached to the back of the stroller and grabbed a bottle. She took James out of the stroller and started feeding him.
Harley put James back in the stroller and walked to a spot under a tree.
A man walked to the tree, noticing Harley. "Hey," the man said, panting. The neckline of his shirt was drenched in sweat.
Harley turned around, seeing him bent over, panting. "Hey. You're Sam, right?"
Sam nodded, still hunched over.
"Victor talks about you a lot," Harley said.
"I could say the same about you. He's always talking about your house and James," Sam said, sitting on the ground, back leaning against the trunk of the tree.
"Need a medic?" another man said, walking to the tree. Harley took James out of the stroller, along with a blanket, and sat him on it.
"I need a new set of lungs. Dude, you just ran, like, 13 miles in 30 minutes."
"I guess I got a late start."
"Really? You should be ashamed of yourself. You should take another lap. Did you take it? I assume you just took it."
The man noticed a symbol on Sam's sweatshirt. "What unit you with?"
"58th Pararescue. But now I'm working down at the VA." Sam held up his hand. "Sam Wilson."
The man grabbed Sam's hand and pulled him to his feet. "Steve Rogers."
"I kind of put that together," Sam said, fully standing up. "Must have freaked you out, coming home after the whole defrosting thing."
"It takes some getting used to," Steve sighed.
A blonde woman walked to Steve, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose. She noticed Harley sitting there with James. "Aw, he's adorable. How old?"
Harley looked up, seeing the woman waiting for an answer. "Eight months." Harley smiled.
"Oh! Where are my manners? I'm Kara," she said. Kara held her hand out and Harley shook it.
"Harley Quinn. Did you just move here?"
"Yeah. Here for work," Kara answered. A sleek, black car pulled up in front of them, making them all turn their heads. The passenger window rolled down, revealing a red haired woman in the driver's seat.
"Hey guys. Any one of you know where the Smithsonian is? I'm here to pick up a fossil," the woman spoke, addressing the four.
"Well, gotta go. Work things," Kara said, shaking Harley's hand. "It was nice to meet you."
"Likewise," Harley said.
Harley and Sam watched Kara and Steve get into the woman's car and speed off into the street.
"They seem nice," Harley said, picking up James.
Sam turned around and nodded. "I just had a normal conversation with Captain America."
"I could tell you were trying to keep calm." Harley put James back in his stroller and started folding the blanket.
"I'm going to the cafe up the street. Want to join me?"
"Sure. I could use a tea right about now."
Harley pushed the stroller next to Sam as they walked to the cafe.
