Act 3. Chapter 8: The case of the Kidnapper
Ten minutes after putting Colin in the closet, a group of Scotland Yard Operative came knocking at his door. Arthur did not open the door for them, instead he stayed seated in the baronial chair directly facing the doorway. These officers barely know anything about Sussex, let alone the fact that this shabby eerie manor is occupied, but since Powley knew that the man who made him have a dive over the cliffs was around the forest, he deduced that maybe Arthur lives in the manor as a kidnapping hideout. It was all just a guess, but the critical set of information Powley possess compromised their peaceful residences.
It was stupid of him to stay in the Bear House, to assume the officer has died, to use range mind-reading too late.
Perhaps it was his attachment to the Bear House. His decades of moping in the same place made him attach to one emotion that only the old Victorian manor could provide. However with Colin inside, the single set of emotions he nested on was shaken by the boy who would demand for books, who would act pathetically brave in the face of ambiguity, and who would stupidly drink tea despite knowing he laced them with drugs once. The witch was never like Madame Archiver who is comfortable being alone. He has always been looking for a companion, but looking for a perfect one was futile until now.
Sitting in the baronial chair for ten minutes made him decide that he will have to surrender his past fixations for the sake of being with Colin. The universe will always find a way to serve him. He will again raise his arms towards the sky in overwhelming gratitude towards the universe that will always provide one gift to let him have everything in its right place, like the time when Mr. Meyers unexpectedly came to the door with such thoughts. It was a perfect circumstance; Colin will have a reason to kill his own father in cold blood. And it came into the front door right after he grew that tumor, right after he found a spell to transfer illnesses. He admit, he grew that tumor to kill him eventually, to finish what he had failed to do last time. But alas, the universe wanted Colin alive, and he accepted the blessing.
Everything in its right place.
He smiled to himself.
Another officer overtook the knocking. It was young, and loud, and strong. Only one annoying officer owns such voice, and so he stayed seated, waiting for them to open the door for him. Can't he be dramatic for one last time? In the first place, he took his sweet time preparing for them. He wore his favorite all-black three piece suit.
When the officer had gone impatient waving the warrant document, he kicked the door open.
"You dollophead!" Powley barged in, angry. Behind him, two lines of Scotland Yard police officers came running in formation, raising their glocks towards the man who sits relaxed and unfazed. "Whoever you are, you're under arrest for attempted murder on a law enforcer, identity theft, kidnapping, and smuggling an illegal hallucinogenic herb. And you are a prime suspect for killing Ms. Keller, Mr. Meyers, and Tiktok Arthur!"
"Tiktok Arthur?" The man in all-black gave him a dainty puzzled look. He stood up, nonetheless, and fixed his suit up. Without warning, he bowed down, sprung himself towards them, and effectively attacked the officers one by one, fast and swift and deadly. All he does is come near one officer and give it an effective one-two blow. Sometimes he would give one a crack in the neck. The officers near the door went out to stay alive to call for backups. It seems the man they're dealing with is not a normal criminal; he has the movements of a trained assassin. This is not something Scotland Yard is trained to do. They're a crime investigation group, for the love of everything that is bloody. They will need to call the Specialist Firearms Command.
