Los Angeles, CA – November 1997
Jasmine sat across from Diane Sawyer in the dark lit room next to a fireplace. She was finally giving an interview.
"I'm glad you finally decided to come out and talk with us," Diane started out saying.
"Well I figured it was only fair," Jasmine said. "To some people in the world at least."
"His fans??"
Jasmine giggled and nudged the air with her shoulder. "Yes. And his family and my family."
"And your fans as well."
"I don't have fans," Jasmine said, shaking her head in disagreement.
"You do."
"I never considered myself a celebrity. So to say I actually have fans sounds odd. They're Michael Jackson's fans, not mine."
"Okay, okay. Well tell us what's going on? You two are together? Or not?"
"We are not together."
"Okay. And everyone is saying the mother of Michael's twins is you. Is that true?"
"Yes. Let me save you time and just tell you the story. Michael and I never got back together after he divorced Lisa. We were trying to make it work but it never really got to that point again. However, yes, I did get pregnant in the middle of us trying to reconsile. And we were very happy to have our twin babies but it wasn't enough to bring us back together. In fact, I'm engaged to an old friend of mine I went to college with. He's actually an old boyfriend."
"Really?"
"Yes. His name is Shawn. He's a great guy. And I currently live with him in Atlanta and Michael has the twins a lot and now that he's done with the tour, he's gonna keep them for a while." Jasmine stopped there and just smiled.
"Well okay then. So what does Shawn do?"
"He's a professor at a university in Atlanta."
"And what do you do these days for work?"
"Well, I decided to leave nursing behind. I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do next but it'll definitely involve dance. Janet just actually recently asked me to go on her next tour with her so I might do that."
"As a dancer?"
"Yes. The Velvet Rope Tour. It'll hopefully be starting next spring so I have little time to think the offer over."
"Are you up for it?"
Jasmine sighed. "Yes, I think it's something I'll really really enjoy but it's my babies... I don't wanna leave them for too long. So I don't know," Jasmine said smiling in thought.
"Well if Michael gets to tour why not you too, right?"
"Yeah," she laughed with the host.
"So what is your relationship like with him now?"
"We're cordial."
"Just cordial?"
Jasmine nodded. "Mm-hm."
"Not friends?"
"We're cool. Not friends."
"How do him and Shawn get along?"
Jasmine sighed and looked to the side.
"I take it not good."
Jasmine laughed. "No." She looked at Diane. "They're cordial too."
