¨Hey if you don't mind, could we stop somewhere? I have to use the bathroom, like, right now¨ Riley said trying to sound as calm as possible.
She didn't really have to go to the bathroom but she needed to get out of this damn car before she rips off Melissa's head.¨Do you think you can hold it? Were almost there.¨
Riley looked at her and shook her head no. ¨Ï really don't think I can hold it. Melissa, I really have to go.¨ Hoping that she would buy it Riley started to bounce her leg on the floor of the car. Making it look like she was ancy.
Melissa reluctantly nodded and waited for the next gas station turn off. She flipped her blinker on and turned off the road and into a gas station. It was old and looked like it was going to fall down with a big gust of air. None of the pumps looked like they were on and the building had broken in windows and looked uninhabited by humans.
She thought about just pulling off for a split second because of how this place made her feel. She felt like she knew this place. Or that she has seen it somewhere before.Maybe in her dreams? She didn't know but she hated the sense of danger she felt here. The uneasiness of the darkness in the entrance.
Riley jumped out of the car and breathed in deeply, smelling air other than what's been inside the car for the past few hours, she smiled. She stretched against the wind and walked towards the darkened building. She had already thought about running but where would she go?
She had no family and no friends and if she were to run away she would surely be put into foster care. Her being 17 she wouldn't find a permanent family and would probably be cast out onto the streets when she turned 18.
No one would want you anyways. A depressive, suicidal, joke of a person is too much for any normal family.
Her throat clenched at this thought and she got closer to the building. The crunching of pebbles underneath the soles of her shoes filled her ears. This was the first time she noticed that it was silent outside. No birds, no other cars, and not even the wind made much sound. She didn't like the fact that she was the only one making noise.
What if she alerted some lost predator? It's not like Melissa could help her; she's too busy doing her makeup in the car.Holding her breath she stepped into the gas station. The big metal door screamed to life as she pushed it with all of her weight.
Stepping into the dark building, dust particles found their way into her lungs and her body desperately tried to get them out.
She coughed until she almost started throwing up. Her body was shaking all over by the time that she was done.
The room was dark and it took her eyes time to adjust to the small amount of light. After a couple seconds she could make out a counter and a few aisles of old products. Things that seem to have been unseen by human eyes in at least a decade.
Looking around the ominous room she caught a chill up her spine.
Something is watching me.
Turning towards the door she saw nothing but the beams of gray light illuminating the dust particles that were in that space.
Sighing under her raspy breath she began to believe she was being naive. She was alone in this room and needed to stop acting like a child.
Things don't just wait in the dark for some unsuspecting traveler. They would rather hunt you instead.
Shaking off the feeling of being watched she looked for a bathroom. She ran her hands along the aisle trying to find her way in the darkness.
Things moved and shifted as she pushed her way through the undisturbed shelves. At the end of the aisle it was open space. Her heart raced slightly as she lifted her hand off of the safety of the familiarity behind her.
Taking a step forward the dust that had rested on her hand stained them a dark ombre brown. They felt dirty and unclean.
I need this bathroom NOW!She bloated forward into the dark hallway before her frantically looking for a door. She felt like she was running forever. Banging against the walls trying to find a door. Her loud baning and screaming filled the dark building with terror. She felt her forehead begin to sweat. Her heart pounded in her ears causing her eyes to darker along the edges. She was going to faint.
She was going to die.
Finally she found a door. It was metal and cold to the touch. She could feel spots of rust that have grown attached to the metallic handle. Looking at the top of the door she saw one of those bar locks. She wondered why the door would lock from the outside. What are they trying to keep locked inside? She held her breath and pulled the corroded lock out of its place. Unleashing whatever was inside, she opened the door wide enough so she could pear in.
To her surprise the room was lit. It was one of those oal ceiling lights that buzzed whenever it was turned on. The light was dim and causing a yellow hue in the room. She followed the light with her eyes and found that it was casted onto a sheet. Her heart stopped and her stomach lurched into her throat.
Is there someone under that sheet?
She sat there becoming more aware of her surroundings. The dripping of the pipes overhead became more clear. The faint buzzing from the light was loud and hurt her ears. She felt like it was infecting her and made her feel dizzy. Her eyes focused on the sheet and she saw that there were other things surrounding it. What looked like an IV stand stood tall by the side of the sheet, A bag full of something red hung there with what looked to be an IV line cam out of the bottom and into the sheet. A big contraption as tall as her was on the other side of the object.
From this distance she couldn't tell what she was looking at.
As she inched forward her breath became more ragged and unsteady. Her heart pounded in her ears and her mouth was dry. She could smell the rust in the room as the chemicals burned their way into her nose. She got to the sheet quickly and stared at it with an intense fascination. She could see her breath leave her mouth.
Why is this room colder than all the others?
Her arms came to life with gooseflesh as the hairs on the back of her neck stood up. She reached forward and grabbed the sheet.
Without hesitation she ripped the sheet off of whatever it was covering. She stared in disbelief at what she was looking at.
The sheet was covering up a hospital bed. In the bed was a little girl. She was strapped to the bed by her hands and feet. The restraints were leather and were so tight it looked as if her hands were blue. The girl's arms were covered in scars and fresh bruises. She looked up at the girl's face that was covered in tubes and hoses. She couldn't quite tell what she looked like because all of the houses were covering up most of her face. Instead she looked at her hair and saw that it was short like hers.
Feeling her stomach tense up she came to a realization.
Is this. Me?!
